Will the Vita have a lifespan of twelve years or more?

Yes. Vita has the power a... 12 19.05%

No. Sony will abandon the... 41 65.08%

Whatever, just bring Digimon to the West. 9 14.29%

Total:62

i honestly think this is it for Sony's handheld gaming market. everyone has either migrated to the 3DS or gone elsewhere. the Vita was unappealing, had little catch, and want what gamers wanted. if they tried to pull off a Vita2, it would do even worse with the seemingly deteriorating market for handhelds. people just want mobile devices now.

I will eat my hat if you can find a new Vita stocked by North American retailers in 2-3 years time. I think Sony is phasing it out this year and will have a Dreamcast-like price cut for it to clear out retail inventory and that will be that in North America for the Vita anyway.

It isn't really "that powerful" either, the average modern smartphone runs circles around a Vita. The chip inside an iPhone 6 destroys the Vita.

Iphone 6:

cpu: 1.4 GHz dual-core ARMv8-A

gpu: PowerVR Series 6 GX6450 (quad-core)

PS Vita:

cpu: 2 GHz Quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 MPCore

gpu: Quad-core PowerVR SGX543MP4+

Your right though basically the Iphone 6 is close to the PS vita in terms of performance.....

You just need to pay alot more for it, have worse batterylife (for gameing) and deal with not haveing the physical buttons the vita has.

I don't see it selling enough in a couple years, let alone another nine, to warrant that much production.

The only place I can see Vita living in for a while is Japan, but when Nintendo's next handheld launches I don't see it faring well.

Yeah, I don't see the Vita lasting too much longer.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

No. I give it five more years, if that.

The Vita is just a third gen iPad chipset basically. The new wave of Apple devices have considerably more powerful versions of the same family of chips (PowerVR GPU + ARM CPU).

Vita is very dated tech.

Which will die first though, the Vita or the Wii U is perhaps the more open discussion.

PREDICTIONS FOR END OF 2015: (Made Jan 1st 2015)

PS4 - 34M - XB1 - 21m - WII U -12M

I could see Japanese games releasing for a while even after the system is discontinued as do no expect a successor.

No it needs to sell in order for sony to keep producing. I think its possible for it to have a second wind but that would simply mean it last 3-4 years more as opposed to ending production at the end of 2016 for the west.

I'm going with 10 years ( So by 2022 it will be dicountinued ). Sony has an excellent history of keeping their consoles around for atleast 10 Years:

PS1: 1994/1995-2006
PS2: 2000-2012/2013
PSP: 2004/2005- 2014

Could see them possibly fasing out the PS Vita worldwide by 2020 though ( lifespan of 8 years ) due to it's lack of sales though.
