Forums - Sony - Sony should buy Sega.

no they shouldnt. Sega sucks and is unable to make a decent game. They shouldnt taint themselves with sega.

Basically, yeah. Well, it's not quite that bad -- they've got the Virtua games -- but Sega is pretty close to a bottom-rung publisher at this point. Sort of like Midway.

Sonic hasn't been competitive with Mario since Sonic & Knuckles on the Genesis. If Sony wanted a new mascot that badly (and I don't think they do) it would be far cheaper and easier to come up with a new one. It would come with a lot less baggage, too.

Dumb idea, maybe buy one or two of their devs but thats it.

for what Sega would cost, they could fund 10 years of game development.

Um Sonic never sells well in Japan. Anyways nobody wants to by a company that gets so much ignorant hate.

I actually think this would be a poor investment by Sony.  If anyone should buy Sega it's clearly Nintendo.  Sega has built up a hearty fanbase on cube/wii with all the Sonic Remakes.  Sony consumers don't seem to touch anything with a cartoony look.  Dexter and Jax is a good example of this.  This game surpassed Sonic a long time ago in the gaming realm but has really struggled to get good sales on PS consoles.

Why the hell would ANYONE even consider buying SEGA. SEGA is completly worthless in terms of most of there games that are out right now. I don't even think Nintendo would consider buying them, yet SEGA and Nintendo are doing pretty good working together and the like.

Generation 8 Predictions so far.....(as of 9/2013)

Console that will sell most: Nintendo Wii U

Who will sell more consoles between Microsoft/SONY: SONY

I think it will be a bad move.

Mario & Sonic is probably Sega's most profitable title. Take that away and Sega's value drops significantly. So Sony would be paying for something that would essentially go in the garbage pail.

After looking at the Japanese numbers EVEN after Yakuza, the PS3 may very well be dying in Japan. Going from a region that rivaled all of Europe combined in sales to barely breaking 20,000 a week is pathetic. Its hard to design a console that sells WW while still attracting the bizarre tastes of Japan.

Sega would be a very good fit for Sony, because of one character. Sonic. Sonic is and has always been the ONLY competition for Mario. I can't remeber which game it was exactly, but there was a Sonic game recently that had ciaos and cities areas you could walk around. (I actually think it was either on the Gamecube or Dreamcast, one of them.) The point is though is that Sonic is known, and still has a lot of potential if crappy sequels of the game are stopped and they game him a sort of PS3 makeover. Almost like an RPG/platformer mix. Throw in the ciaos and you would have a pokemon like game and now the potential to take them online and compete.

It makes sense on many different levels, with PSP integration to take those little ciao things on the road. But one thing is certain, the PS3 needs a face in Japan, and internationally for that matter. Sonic would be perfect at his point IMO, and very easily could provide a much needed spark in Sony's home territory.

I don't think Sony will buy Sega, they'd be afraid of it not getting out of its slump.

But i want to tell you I have new-found respect for you.  I know what it must have taken for you to type the bolded words.

Take heart my friend, the PS3 is not dying in Japan.  It's just that the Japanese pick one console per generation and leave the rest to suffer distant also-ran status.  The PS3 will be viable in Japan, it will just never be a powerhouse.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

SEGA is not a good fit for Sony. Don't let Yakuza cloud that. It sold because it fits into the same Dynasty Warriors crowd, which also happen to sell amazingly well. If anything, I say they buy KOEI. There's no way it would cost as much as SEGA and would come with a proven Japanese powerhouse. All of those Romance of the 3 Kingdoms game franchises are doing well in Japan to my knowledge and could give an edge for Sony to become a comeback kid in Japan.

What SEGA needs is to work smaller. Lessen the large budget PS3/360 projects and concetrate on the Wii/DS/XBLA/PSN combination. Get more games onto the Virtual Console, get those co-op Genesis games onto XBLA and PSN for online play. Get Panzer Dragoon Saga up for $15 on PSN/XBLA also so I can finally play the damn thing. Also get a sports series up and running again. Nothing too demanding. Even a well made sports compilation like Wii Sports could do wonders with SEGA characters. Right now, SEGA is in the position that they need to make money by any means necessary, even if it isn't the games we all want. I'd rather sit through some cash-in years for the chance of a revitalized SEGA later on than the rotted out core of a SEGA were looking at now.

Sony should have snatched Namco instead, because they're very close to the Playstation brand.

Sega is hardcore. They don't waste time in putting too much FMVs into their games (unlike Namco). The Sonic Team games aside, they won't dumb down the game mechanics to accommodate casual players (unlike Namco). They usually don't put too many bonus features in their games, just the core game (unlike Namco).

Namco has a broader appeal. Sega just wants people to play their games. You either hate them or love them, no in-between.
