Forums - Gaming - The Witcher 3 Is Not Fun To Play (But The Quests Are Godly)

This game has frozen on me several times now. For no apparent reason, it goes into a load screen and never comes out of it. Load times are a bit long as well.

The more I play this game, the more I hate the combat. I have the ability to counter incoming arrows, but it doesn't work unless you are close enough to engage them in combat.

If they start shooting arrows at you from a distance it doesn't allow you to block, it just does the witcher sense vision. You have to be engaged in combat in order to use your sword to block. That just really sucks, I was trying to counter the arrows and he just wouldn't block. Very frustrating.

The game is really good though, and I haven't stopped playing it since I got it. Really loving this game, just not the combat.

Twice now I've got stuck in a hole filled with water. What a stupid oversight.

Still loving the game though.

hmm well I am not sure what point exactly in the game you talk about.  I just got an option to offer them drinks. Maybe because I invested in that mind skill?

It's at the point where you leave White Orchard. I figure it's a game mechanic to indicate that there's no going back to White Orchard, end of that chapter. It just feels very forced.

I dont know dude i was also giving the option of "Buying them" a drink too (But instead i decided to kill them for trying to get me to buy them a drink xD) .

Most of your other issues with the game seem like only minor complaints to me that you seem to be shoving more at the witcher then you would with any other game something you kinda even admit to when you said "In any other game I would simply laugh at the disproportianate violence and happily play the industry standard kleptomaniac psychotic mass muderer role." ..

Catastrophic pop in,  lag on the inventory, awful loadings ( if you play in the highest difficulty, you know that ) , too much technical issues like the character who appears in front of you after 10s or broken not allowing you to speak with them, ...

There is a lot of major flaws killing the immersion, even if the game is very good, i would put it at 85 on metacritic because of that, at least on console, maybe on PC without most of the technical issues, the experience is far more satisfying

Well on PC im experencing no such issues and since the has been a lot of other games that got high ratings that wasnt anywhere as good as Witcher 3 or as big or long and yet where just as broken or more so on consoles, i think your score of 85 would be a huge Deservice to the time and work that went into crafting such an amazing game, unless you think no such console game from here on out deserves such a score since this is something ye console gamers now have to get used to and should of last gen when console game updates and patches became a thing.. Like i said wait for a patch to fix the issues on console (Something console gamers should be well used to by now) or return the game if your not enjoying it the way everyone else is. But like i said on PC i've experianced no such things that you talk about. Maybe PC really is the best place to play this game since PC is now on Patch 1.04 and consoles still on 1.01-2, But thats not the developers fault since console patchs can sometimes take weeks to get approved after they been handed over..

Anyway lets see what other massive open world RPG's that launch without anything broken. at least on PC we dont have to wait so long for updates something i feel sorry for with my console friends who decide to play such games on consoles...

When you are affected by game breaking bugs in major quests, the 85 is justified, it's a shame they released the game with so much bugs. I can bare the minor ones, but the infinite loading on king's gambit quest is huge, it's developers fault to release a game in this state, any other game with such major bug would get awful reviews

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

Complete turnaround from me! I still find the combat and traversal to be problematic but THAT WORLD! Loving it.

Yes. The world. It's so immersive, so much details everywhere, the world is also very cohesive. It's going to be hard to play another RPG after this one...

Or maybe The witcher 4?

Every WRPG is going to be compared to this game now. Guarilla games better have something comparable AND hire some decent script writers,

It really shows how people treat problems within a game depending on who makes it, that being said I think the game deserves to have its strengths praised over its faults because clearly this was a labour of love and the characters in the game show and also does its world. Not to mention the its a great success for the games industry as a whole to have such a prominent Polish developer join the ranks of industry standards, so all things considered I think the game deserves all its praise as a western RPG.

For anyone interested in RPGs btw, Konami is having daily Suikoden stream to measure interest and potentially save the Suikoden series by showing that people still care about it. If enough people join in, discuss it and buy the digital releases they may release the games on Steam, make sequals etc.

So please join in at http://www.twitch.tv/konami 3:30 PM Pacific time every weekday and discuss the series or just discover it if you're curious.

There are all kinds of action-WRPGs, it should only be compared to other open-world games - I'm really enjoying it, it's excellent in some things, but, tbh, it lacks in others.

I'm getting a bit frustrated with the crafting system. I'm hauling all these crafting components with me yet always miss one or two things to actually make something. It all adds up and I don't have much weight limit left for loot. Plus when I finally craft something I find something better within the hour :/

Why put a limit on it anyway as I'm already carrying enough with me to stock an average wall mart.
Why can't I store it somewhere (maybe I haven't gotten that far yet?)

Skyrim's crafting system was much better, compared to that this feels like a convoluted mess. Nothing is sorted, just a long list of stuff to make, same in the inventory, a big mess of different materials thrown together. You can't filter out stuff you already have or is below or above your level. No links to sub components you can craft, go through the long list yourself. I'm at the point of simply selling all the materials and don't bother with it anymore.

Back to questing, the good stuff.
This game is definitely: World (graphics), Characters, Story >>>>>>>>> Gameplay.
