Wait, gamespot and ign counts more to the final score?

29 reviews now, still 81. The score is getting solid.

I hope it stays above 80, it seems like it will.

i was just having a laugh because what goodnightmoon said was so opposite of what myamoto said.

i still think nintendo did the worst thing ever in releasing with 5 maps.  reviews matter more for new IP than for established IP and everyone knew that reviewers review what is availible at launch not what will be availible eventually.  driveclub got hammered.  destiny got hammered.  evolve got hammered.  titanfall got hammered.  this is not unexpected,.. it has happened with every game ever that had scheduled free content after launch but shy on content day 1.

these days a game can look drastically different after a year than day 1 but day 1 reviews last forever.

yeah u might be right but im glad they did it. i want to play the game now and not wait several month longer^^

So the metascore might be a bit low because of that, but who cares. ill definitly have fun now and will have fun in august whe new content will be launched^^

a good metascore wont give me any fun at all.

the game (gameplay whise) is still great and with the content in august its easily a 85+ game. It may not show this number on metacritic, but we do all know it right?

I think it's going to dip slightly under 80%, probably 78%/79%. Could have been 80 plus vut then they should have provided more content day one.

When there is free DLC content coming.........reviews should not use it as a con or a pro AT ALL.
Focus on what's there, and say a sentence that more is to come.

That's how all reviews should be done imo. -_-.

You cant be serious.

Again, no, I can´t understand how the "The most original and enjoyable online shooter of the generation" has a 7.  I really doiesn´t make sense, and is the trend of all the low scores, you read it, and then you look at the score is like what?

At the end of the day that is the score of a boring game.

But hey, is what it is, it was a risk and this is the pay, but is still a good metascore, so Ok.

It does make sense. It doesn't matter how good a game's core mechanics are, if someone doesn't believe it has enough content (relative to quality) to justify the price, they'll review it as such. How much individuals care will vary, but we shouldn't criticize those that do. It's a perfectly valid complaint to have against a game, and it's a common enough opinion that it needs to be well represented in a generalized score (and it appears it will be).

On a side note, i think you're putting a bit too much value in the phrase "The most original and enjoyable online shooter of the generation". Considering how few 'original' shooters we've had so far this gen (and the highest rated ones being remasters), that particular bar has been set pretty low.

Regardless, the end score seems good enough. Should settle in the 78 - 83 range.

No, not really.

Games should come finished to the market. If it has enough content and gets free updates, then that's great, but Splatoon only has 5 maps and like 2 multiplayer modes. That is obviously not that much.

Releasing half finished games should not be encouraged.
