Maybe this time Nintendo does what people wanted for Black & White 2, make the game exclusive to the next generation of hardware.

I, personally, would like to see the next Pokemon game come out on the 3DS as well, since I don't really want to buy a new console yet :p

..but if it's Pokemon Z though, I probably will pass regardless

No, Black/White 2 weren't exclusives for the 3DS, they came with the rest of the 5th gen. Game Freak won't divide the generations like that.

Hmm, if it's Pokemon X2 and Y2, I might want to jump in because Pokemon XY definitely was really fun to play and the environments were improved greatly

Pokemon Z.... not so much :p

All this Pokemon talk makes me want the next main series title now.

I hope they make Z as opposed to X2/Y2, but I won't mind either way.

Pretty sure it would be the same one way or another....l0l.

Well, I have yet to play Black 2 White 2 (and finish White, for that matter)

I may be completely wrong, but as far as I know, I've heard that they introduced completely new characters and story for that one..

whereas Crystal, Emerald and Platinum is just the same story with a few additions (Suicune story, Rayquaza, Giratina Alt World etc.) and added Pokemon from both regions

If that is the case, then X2 Y2 is more appealing to me than Pokemon Z (the fusion of X and Y, basically)

I'm sure the Black2/White2 thing was a one time deal due to how short that generation was and how without a remake it wouldn't have had another pair of games. Plus all signs point to Z being the name. Not that I really care since story is the last thing I buy Pokemon games for, but I too hope it's different from X/Y, at the very least give it more of a post game.
