I don't think they're referring to the games with that statement. Busters is just a spinoff, so comparing it to the mainline games is a bit pointless.
What's really slowing down is the merchandising, I believe. Mainly the watches and such. Level-5 really went too fast with the series, and looking at this, I can't believe people ever called it a Pokemon killer.

I just got my copy of Super Mario Maker in the mail.
The box looks so awesome (like the box of the first SMB).
