1) That patent is vague as crap and 2) Nintendo execs have commented multiple times on the continued demand for physical, most notably Reggie recently.  So no, I highly doubt they are planning a digital only future.  But as the article says, could be a streaming service?  Maybe a Virtual Console you subscribe to or something?
