Forums - Nintendo - Splatoon post-launch plans - is it good?

It's not ideal, preferably a little more content should have been added day one, but it's not a deal breaker. If I have to start paying for shit, I'm going to lose it.

Around the Network

Earlier I was thinking Splatoon is kind of the opposite of certain AAA games these days. Seems people complain about some games launching in an incomplete state functionally, with all of the content finished at release yet some held back for paid DLC later. Splatoon is launching in a fully functional state with half of its content incomplete and being added later for free. Kinda funny to me.

Anyway Nintendo can do whatever they want, but I won't buy the game until I think it's worth the asking price, and to me it isn't at launch. At least the game is shaping up to be pretty solid though, impressions of the netcode seem positive and they're still ironing it out.

If you want to call me a fanboy at least have the guts to do it in a direct manner.

You were talking about reviews, metacritic is the place where all those reviews get collected into one place. My point still stands.

Nobody is being screwed, the game rose up the ranks on Amazon in all kinds of countries because of the Global Testfire demo. People obviously liked what they played. And did you know that the people who played the demo and bought the game digitally get a discount? Of course you didn't know that.

Nintendo EAD has a pretty good reputation for delivering quality content, so damn right I'm going to trust them. Anything wrong with that? I've actually played their first ever TPS multiplayer shooter and it's damn good. Have you?

I'm not deflecting anything. Amiibo are a non-issue. People buy them for the figurines. If you really want to complain about Nintenùdo responding to the market then blame Activision. They're the ones who invented this toys to life concept. Oh and they DO lock important gameplay elements behind these figurines. Nintendo doesn't.

But if you don't believe me, feel free to make a thread about why people buy amiibo, be sure to include a poll. ;)

I have never seen someone so aggressively miss the point.

You talked about metacritic scores, I'm not talking about scores but the actual content of the reviews.

People have not played all maps or tried all weapons and gamemodes, have you heard of a little game called Destiny, that was also a game where tons of people were sold on the demo just to then be disappointed by the full game. And how does that discount thing help your case? That's just another way of locking people into the game while not knowing about how a lot of the game content is going to turn out.

And jesus your continuous Amiibo deflecting is getting tiring, Splatoon has ingame content locked behind a $30 paywall, you can continue your people don't buy Amiibo for the game application mantra all you want, but you can not change what is a simple fact.

Fine, lets set aside the amibo conversation and asume your right. Lets agree on your point that it would review better had it been delayed with all the content. Lets also say that no voicechat will affect the game negatively. Lets even say you where actually inform on this game and not just here bitching cuz is nintendo.

Whats you point then? Do you still think this is a good looking game? Should we just ignore this game because its not releasing "complete"? Should we wait a couple of months to buy this game? Or are you just here complaining cuz is not coming out for your xbox?

You're the only one complaining here anyway. I didn't see Mario Kart 8 get this much hate for using amiibo. Or any other Nintendo game for that matter. No one will feel screwed over free dlc. Well, maybe you will, but then again, you don't have a Wii U, so your opinion is worthless to me.

That $30 "paywall" includes 3 figurines which you keep ignoring. If you want to complain about amiibo then make a thread about it. This is about Splatoon's post-launch plans, not your petty complaints against Nintendo/amiibo.

Let's just ignore you then.

You do realise that I brought up the Amiibo thing because you kept screaming that the DLC is free right? Oh and if you think there aren't people out there that are complaining about the Amiibo DLC practices then you must really not have been paying attention at all, just because the majority of the Nintendo fanbase is doing its usual thing of giving Nintendo a free pass on everything doesn't mean that people aren't catching up on it. But hey my opinion is worthless because I don't own a Wii U, because you only need Nintendo fans to confirm your bias not other people to give a new point of view, surely there's no reason to think that post launch content that may very well break the balance of the game or just plain suck being sold to you at launch is a not so great thing.

That is not my point and since when am I an Xbox guy? If you don't know anything about me, don't make assumptions like that.

The point is that I was critcising what I feel is a shitty practice, but apparently doing that is a huge freaking deal around here. I have said above that the post launch content may well turn out poorly and in that case make the whole game worse (cause in terms of maps over 50% of the content is post launch and one broken weapon can break a whole multiplayer). That is the point, that this content is being sold to people on faith alone and that even after it's all out it's going to be unnecessarily difficult to find out what the actual complete package is going to be like in quality, because new reviews will at that point be scarce.

Anyone can choose to buy this game, that's everyone's right but at the same time it is my right to critcise things I find worth criticising without having people throw a complete hissy fit.

Nintendo need one thing: Promote Splatoon + free game, just like they did year ago with Mario Kart 8. This step can reduce the disappointment.

It's insane the lengths people will go to pardon this game. Any other online shooter released by any other company would have been absolutely crucified for daring to launch their game with only one online mode and 5 maps. I called the severe lack of content months ago, but even I wasn't pessimistic enough to consider that there wouldn't even be ample maps at launch.

better 5 good maps than 15 with the quality of bf hardline.

and its not one online mode, its 3.

still, thats not alot, and nintendo realy have to deliver after launch to make it worth the price.

I agree with this.  I remember spending an entire summer one year playing Blood Gulch CTF for PC Halo.  All you need is a couple of really well designed maps to make a FPS loads of fun.  I think people trust that when Nintendo is devlivering 5 maps, they are going to be maps that are a cut above that of your standard first person shooter.  Furthermore, I think people are also trusting that Nintendo is going to deliver on their promise for additional maps in a tasteful way (like was done for MK8) as opposed to the kind of DLC that we are seeing from most western developers.

most fps have 5 or 6 good maps that are played all the time, because they are realy well designed(the maps you play competitive)
everybody who plays FPS knows DE_dust2 and CTF-face.

I think the idea is generally ok, but not on my Wii U where memory space gets really tight.

Maps seems to be whats itchiing you the most aparently. When has maps matter that much? In most FPS people play the same 3-5 maps of any game cuz they are recicled each time. You can barely tell the diference in them. SOmething we know its not the case with the ones that where shown to us. And since this game is also a platformer, where nintendo does shine, Im pretty sure the single player campaing will be more than enough to keep people ocupied while they wait for the other maps.

If game modes also bother you, then I cant tell you anything else that hasent been said before, its not that long of a wait for the other modes to show up.

Previous games like the order have gotten well deserve critisisim for being to short and not having the multyplayer, evolve for lack of content and microtransactain, destiny for just plain borring and repetetive and very sad porly made expansions, also remember the raids wich where lso locked for a couple of weeks untill enough players got to the right level? so this content over time is not news.. This game, unlike the rest has shown us whats to come, what we are getting from the start, no pay walls and you have fixeated on that one aspect that MIGHT be bad. I dont see it like this and others seem to be on the same page. But for me, this seems like a way for them to test the waters, they havent done a competetive shooter multyplayer before and the console might not have the fanbase for a first week 80% of sales like this genre tends to get. So it seems logical that they milk the launch with every week something new to keep players happy, word of mouth to spread and slowly build a player count to keep the game alive online.

You do have the right to critic anything you want, but when it seems so obvious that your only here to bash on the game, only looking at the one aspect of a game that might be bad and ignoring all the good, with no aparent knowledge of the game, and no interest in ever owning this game or the console, people just know that your only here to troll. So dont get so shock at others response.

At least for the Splatoon + the 3 amibo bundle wich I think is like $80, that seems worthy of reciving a download code for an old IP like pikmin or wonderfull 101.
