Forums - Sony - Risen 3: Titan Lords – Enhanced Edition coming to PS4 on August 21

Risen 3: Titan Lords – Enhanced Edition is coming to PS4 on August 21, developer Piranha Bytes and Deep Silver have announced.

The game will be available digitally in all territories, and as a physical retail version in the UK, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, France, Spain and Nordic territories.

The new Enhanced Edition promises graphical quality comparable to the Ultra settings of the original PC release, and in some instances even surpassing those visuals. Improvements include higher resolution textures across the board, the introduction of new state of the art post-process effects such as bokeh depth-of-field and HDR bloom, and an all-new volumetric cloud system.

"With the Enhanced Edition we have the great opportunity to acquaint even more console gamers with our way of crafting worlds. Due to the graphical updates, they can enjoy the exploration of the living and breathing world more than ever," said Björn Pankratz, project director at Piranha Bytes.

Hmmm... better not release at max price though.

I might consider it when it hits 20 euros, like bound by flame. Anything higher than 40 euros at launch will mean a bomb. Especially with Dragon age and witcher out.

Sounds like my kind of game, but only has a 65 meta score. I know that isn't everything, but it makes me hesitant. Maybe one to watch and consider at a lower point. More games is always good though

Low metacritic score tho

I have actually not played any in the series but this one was looking interesting. Lots of reviewers didnt like the combat, but they said the same thing about bound by flame and i enjoyed what i played. Its a bit like the souls and monster hunter games. You need to get the combat to enjoy it (you cant just spam buttons). With thats said, i'm not a fan of those two, but i have been ok with these european style WRPG's.

As someone who played all Risen games I'll jump in...

Fans of Gothic know who Piranha Bytes are and how much they've influenced open world WRPGs - including upcoming Witcher 3....alas, Risen is not as good as Gothic.

First game is very much Gothic alike, though much smaller in scope - PB parted their ways with JoWood after Gothic 3 and Arcania: Gothic 4 was not even made by them (nor considered to be Gothic at all by many fans). So they've went on and made Risen 1, which was pretty much Gothic, but on smaller budget...which honestly shows from time to time after Gothic 3. Still, very good game.

Risen 2 was quite different though, and though still running Gothic DNA, it changed quite a bit, both the setting (focusing more on pirate themed part of the universe) and, to a certain degree, gameplay - for Gothic and Risen 1 fans it was either love or hate thing.

Risen 3 was pretty much made cause they had contract with Deep Silver for 3 games, so lot of assets from Risen 2 are used...which doesn't mean automatically it's a bad game, it's just not that much different from Risen 2.

As for combat - ok, there's that video of Angry Joe playing it and going apeshit-crazy and only thing I can say is...he's a fucking noob, and no amount of "I'm Gothic fan" from him can justify his incompetence. Combat is not perfect, but it's nowhere as hard or punishing as Gothic's combat system.

All in all, Risen 2/3 are decent games with a lot of stuff to do and ways to play them, as all PB games. Though nowhere as good as their classic predecessors. I've enjoyed them quite a lot, but I'm not completely objective since I'm biased toward anything that PB makes. Depending on the price and your love for, what is usually called Euro-RPGs, you might want to check them out.

QFT.  He's been a gamer since the 90s atleast since his favorite game is XCOM, or so he says, because the guys a scrub.  I like his reviews, but he's a shitty gamer.  Other Joe is also pretty terrible, but he's MLG Pro compared to Angry Joe.
