Forums - PC Discussion - AMD Info! HBM-equipped Radeon this quarter! Zen CPU architecture in 2016

OC running at 1040?! That's ridiculous, and with the low OC we saw from benchmark testers, that's pretty much as good as it gets. There's no way they'll compete with the 980Ti in the same price range, I think AMD will have to lower the price.
That said; I'm excited to see what they will all do with HBM and the insane hybrid cooling solutions (Fury X is ridiculously cool even on load) paired with shrunk dies.
Next gen of GPU's will be crazy for sure.

That's Fury, not Fury X, and it's priced to compete with the regular GTX 980.

And I agree about Fury X's incredible cooling solution (even with the pump noises that some are reporting). Here's a thermal image from the hardwarecannucks review:

http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardware-canucks-reviews/69682-amd-r9-fury-x-review-fiji-arrives-8.html

And I agree that Pascal and Artic Islands (AMD's 4xx GPUs codename) at 14 or 16nm will be very interesting. So many transistors packed into such a small space, I think we'll get more watercooled cards.

First reviews of AMD's Fury non X card, but only Asus and Sapphire have cards ready.

I'll use the table from hardwarecanucks to sum it all:

The Fury is quite faster than its main competitor, the GTX 980.

Im ready to jump on amd products
The question is as a nvidia user will the gpu and cpu line from amd satisfy me ???

With current CPUs, you're better with an Intel processor. When Zen launches things can change, but that will be in 2016.

When it comes to GPUs, I think there's no wrong here as both Nvidia and AMD offer similar performance for similar prices. It's a matter of features and what product is closer to your personal budget.

I hope you didn't thought that it was over, because there's still some rumors and "news".

AMD’s Radeon R9 Nano Smiles For The Camera – Benchmarked At 26.6 Frames Per Second On Unigine Heaven 4K Benchmark

http://wccftech.com/amd-r9-nano-pictures-unigine-heaven-benchmark/

The original source, in chinese (I think) is http://iyd.kr/756

Read the whole story at the like above, but the summary is that based on this slide from AMD (hence why the claimed official numbers):

And knowing that Fury Nano is a 175W card, they extrapolate that Nano's performance numbers is 175W x 0.152fps/W at Unigine Heaven = 26.6 fps

AMD Confirms Completing Two 14/16nm FinFET Product Designs

http://www.overclock3d.net/articles/cpu_mainboard/amd_have_taped_out_their_first_14nm_finfet_products/1

AMD announced this Thursday that they have taped out their first products using a FinFET processing node at their earnings conference call this year. While AMD have not confirmed what products they have taped out, it is more than likely that it is either AMD's first Zen based CPU or perhaps even a next generation GPU.

AMD's CEO Lisa Su said that they "have actually just taped-out our first couple of FinFET designs,” meanings that the majority of the investment required in creating these products has already been made.

For those who are unaware a "tape-out" is the final stage of the design cycle of an integrated circuit, meaning that AMD will be at a stage where they will be able to get their first production sample of these chips within the next few months.

Typically it takes 9 months to a year for a product to move from it's initial tape-out to mass production, so if AMD have taped-out these products within the last few months we can expect to see new FinFET based products around late Q3 2016 or early Q4 2016.

And finally, it's not news or a rumor but an observation: with AMD's Zen launching next year at 14nm and Intel announcing the new Kaby Lake processors at 14nm again (because they are having such troubles going to 10nm), it will be the first time in ages that AMD and Intel will compete at the same node process.

After a month without too many things to say, now the rumor mill says that the R9 Fury Nano will launch this week:

AMD Radeon R9 Nano Reportedly Launching on 27th August

We'll find out if it's true very soon.

Rumors say that Fury Nano reviews should be out tomorrow, but even if that istrue, that's not stopping some sites to keep posting "leaks" and rumors about it.

The last one is from Videocardz and uses this Korean site with a blurred datasheet to back its claims (in my opinion, that's a bit desperate)

AMD Radeon R9 Nano confirmed to feature 4096 Stream Cores

There are also lots of pics, but I'll only post three of them:

1-The small R9 Fury Nano with its single 8pin power connector

2-The card disassembled

3-How much does the cooler weigh?

@JEMC Thanks for keeping us up to date with AMD. I'm looking forward to the new card. With excellent noise levels this might be the ultimate media/gaming center card.

Up to 1000mhz for the Fury Nano is pretty rad, I was expecting more in the line of 850mhz to get the consumption down to its 175W TDP. Guess AMD will have to do some extensive cherry picking for these to achieve this.
