Totally. The story is amazing and it comprises ALL games, concluding in MGS4. Except for MTS2. Great game, shit story that almost does not connect to the rest of the story told throughout the other games.

What?!
Just because MGS2 got heavily retconnected in MGS4 doesn't mean it has a shit story, nor it doesn't connect to the rest of the games. If anything, after 2 the series took a whole new direction.

And a reoccurring character with a stomach disease.
And let's not forget it's anti-war message.

You're missing out the happy-go-lucky scientist who happens to develop an incredible weapon of mass-destruction.
And infinite ammo bandana.
When you play an older game, you have to assume that sometimes the controls will be awkward. Shadow of the Colossus, even if it's a classic, has awkward controls. Some genres, like platforming and racing reached their maturity on the 90s and few things changed.
More recent genres such as fps and tps however only became mature in the PS360 years. Most PS2 shooter have awkward controls. MGS 4 and 5 use more traditional tps controls, something that wasn't defined when MGS2 and 3 launched. Even classics like Medal of Honor on PS1 have terrible control schemes for the current era.
Is this a case of "plays games 10 years later: complains they arent modern" ?
You dont like, its fine. I dont think they are amazing and i had to force myself to finish the third game cause i played it many years later. Its a PS2 game! I dont know what you were expecting...
But when i played 1 and 2 when they came out, i thought they were amazing. Timing is a very important thing. Complaining about an old game not adehring to modern convention comes across as a bit unacurate.
Look at the bright side, at least you won't feel bad when Kojima is no longer the leading dev of the next MGS after MGSV:PP.
For us who grew up with the franchise, it will be awkward to say the least.

To answer the thread question, no I don't, but that's because I don't like shooters that much in general

I do truly enjoy the series, despite its glaring faults.
Ground Zeroes has maybe the best gameplay I ever see in a third person shooter/stealth.
