Microsoft is adding Blu Ray support where it makes sense...

"Ballmer, however, made clear at Mix '08 that over the long term Microsoft sees the Internet, and not discs, as the primary vehicle for HD content access. "Five years from now, it may not make a bit of difference" whether the Xbox or other devices have DVD drives, Ballmer said. "

Apparently in 5 years every country in the world will have broadband fast enough to download movies in 5 minutes. Otherwise it's faster to just go to the shop.

 

Maybe in 10 years it will be mainstream. But they will need support of hardware manufactorers to produce standalones to download to. I don't think it would work with a pc or just the 360. In about 7 years I think people will start to talk about it more.

I wouldn't want digital downloads even if I could download a movie in 5 minutes , I want a physical copy that I own , can lend to others , resell or throw out the friggin window if I please.

I doubt you will even have broadband fast enough to download movies in Canada in 5 years. I'm still paying 40 bucks a month with actual download speed of close to 70kb/s

Rogers. Being throttled hard doing anything. Even ITune downloads, I have to suffer from about 6kb/s download speed at night. That's why I can't even load VGC pages sometimes.

 

Also, I have a quota of about  40gb per month, so 2 blu-ray movie download a month

It's f***ing ridiculous.

 

And don't get me started on Mobile plans here in this country
