im not sarcastic, i dont think things will change without a crash, and we will get a step closer to the crash if sony abuses kickstarter.

Kickstarters are for games without a publisher to fund them (or studios that want to make a game without a publisher... or again they have not found one yet and they want to prove to the publisher there is some demand when they negociate the publishing agreement)...
Sony is a publisher, they own the studio... why would they risk alienating people if the game gets canned because they don't like it?
Anyway, why would anybody ever fund something like that? it has all the risk of an investment, with none of the possible benefits ($$$$) it does not even pay as much as lending, and there is ZERO guarantee that it will ever work, no matter how the studio is reliable.
Talking about reliability, most ND games get at least 1 delay, so chances are people would get pissed at them.
Anyway, it's not as if they could not fund it, the problem is, if you listen the interviews with current Naughty Dog staffers, they really seem to enjoy darker toned games like The Last of Us and Uncharted, so we will see more of those before we see anything related to Crast (or some other of their cartoony franchises).
Your suggestion is just calling for trouble, and this is wrong
kickstarters are nice and cue to help a small studio get started if they have a good idea... but otherwise it makes no sense.

At PSX last year we also saw a lot of hype to a new Crash, but while Activision still owns it Sony can't do a thing. So, with the strong interest in this franchises we are seeing, and the success of their spiritual sucessors (at least at fund raising), Sony should do the same with Crash. While Sony is a big company and doesn't need a kickstart, it would be a nice move to do it even then. Both to measure expectations about the project and also to create hype. Sony should add a goal of let's say 1M (dolars) offering the game as a pre-order more than a funding, were donations of $30 would give you a digital code and $50 a retail copy. With maybe some others rewards to bring some interest. What do you think about it? That could be a nice alternative to Crash. |
I feel like it'd get called 'a dick move' and create a 'Nintendoom aura' about 'Sony being so strapped for cash'.
If they wanted to do it, they'd have to disband or even just spay Naughty Dog and make it look like a natural sequence of events.Which is possibly the worst idea I've ever had.
Wouldn't it be better if Sony just released some Surveys asking their fans what kind of game they want next and put a spiritual successor to Crash? It would be a better way to judge interest than a kickstarter. Even if they refunded everyone who funded it.... it would be terrible publicity.
I still think you'd be better off starting a petition though.

they can get back to making games like Crash, there is enough talent left at ND for it.
have confidence in em, they could do it if tey realy try
I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks this but a big publisher like Sony doing a Kickstarter probably wouldn't sit well with a lot of people. Fund the game yourself don't ask for fans to do it.

It would be nice
if sony wanted to make a spiritual successor crash they could but they dont want to as of right now.
