It's like comparing a portable DVD player to a full laptop... both have a screen and both can play movies. But one allows you to do more.

I don't think you have an understanding of VR its not like a TV you play your games on not even close. VR is capable to do anything AR does with a passthrough camera. Actually filming the reality and making it different will be one of the major uses of VR imo. Like night vision. I think VR headset can do AR better than any other current technology with a passthrough camera. Try it on gear vr and you will realize its potential. Everything that MS showed could be done with a VR headset with a camera mounted on and way better FOV.

AR still needs time but not a ridiculously long time mind you, AR still has a way to go just like VR does and honestly I don't see either doing gangbusters like some think they will.

Hopefully in the end with time and proper prepping and the right angle of marketing, MS will make AR a thing with everyday life and gaming in the mix.

And just a note because I know exactly the reply that will come my way without a doubt, no I'm not up for the typical VR>AR debate, take that with you out the door as you go, I won't be biting.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

VR is alot closer to being market ready than AR is, judgeing by videos of people useing them and first impressions.

Im not going to argue which is best, but I can see VR being alot more friendly for gameing development.

And by VR having market ready products or finishing prototypes, while Hololens is more like a concept yet.
