What's their handheld gonna be then?

I'm pretty sure the Wii U was on 2 E3's before releasing.

Anyways, you didnt present a reason as to why this isnt a new portable instead.

I agree for 2017. date, but I am not sure that NX is home console, for me bigger chances are that NX is handheld.

Well there isn't a trend for them,but 3DS was announcend at E3 2010 and released  in February 2011 and it could be a reasoning,however Nintendo ds was announced at E3 2004 and released same year in the holidays,even though this must have been in order to not leave space to psp...

We really dont know what it is yet afterall. Though i would say theres bigger chances that its a portable. Its too early for a new home console. Of course, maybe they do the fabled fusion or simply a portable Wii U that is compatible with Wii U digital software and doesnt have a gamepad (the dual screens functions the same but people seem to accept it better on a portable).

If it is a Home console, it will release in 2016, i believe.

Forget the past. Just look at the momentum XB1 and PS4 had by evealing and releasing them in the same year!
That's the momentum Nintendo needs for the home console... specially for the home console!

Why 2016? The moment they start developing for NX, Wii U will lose the little support it already has. So, instead of letting it die slowly like they did with Wii and GC, it's better to use whatever momentum Wii U will have in 2016 and go right to next console.

following the patterns of consoles and HH lifetimes, both 3DS and wii U sucessor should be released at 2017 holiday.
First time that both expected lifetime ends in the same time.
So, is the perfect timing for the fusion/hybrid console.

NX is most likely their next handheld while wii u's successor will be unveiled and released in 2017.

a lot of people lost faith in there support for wiiu after delaying Zelda and they haven't done anything to restore it. 2 years seems like a long time to support a dying console. they even said no Mario this gen. so I would say fall 2016.
