TR is a holiday 2015 exclusive meaning it could come to PS4 as early as February. I can see UC4 releasing in April or May so that would be perfect. Just a thought.

This deal was very good when Uncharted 4 was due Winter 2015, This deal is amazing for Microsoft now that Uncharted 4 got delayed. No way Square would ever sign this timed exclusive if it wasn't for uncharted in same launch window.
This deal just double in value without Microsoft having to spent any more. Holiday season is biggest console selling time in the USA; November and December account for almost 50% of the years sales.
So It's a big deal to have the game release in November rather then April.
Well it made some sense when uc4 was going to release on holidays... Bad luck... They should sue Sony for screwing their plan. Or gets more money from MS and extend delay 6 more months for Ps4.

More importantly, is it going to be released on PC day one?

Sue the company your own plan negatively impacts because the plan had a flaw. That'd be hillarious. Meanwhile their parent company is saying "more PS4 games please."

No, it's 360/one.

If you look at software sales, it's clear that a lot of people tend to buy into hype because they are unable to wait until credible reviews are out. There is a lingering fear of missing out on an event, so people buy as soon as a game comes out. Therefore timed exclusivity has its merits. The second point is that outright exclusivity isn't an option, because most third party publishers think that no amount of money can offset the potential damage that such a move can do to the value of an IP. Or the option to buy outright exclusivity gets assigned such a high amount of money that a console manufacturer doesn't see the value in it. That's why it has become all about timed exclusivity and small additional exclusive content in the console wars. |
It definitely has it's merits, I just find that the gains are not as good as having it entirely exclusive or just trying to fund a new IP.
Those that don't want to miss out on an event and spend spend spend and spend big tend to be the suckers who later on complain that they didn't get the better deal, this is why I tend to wait a little longer to see what happens rather than forget thinking and throw money at the screen, I've actually saved money by waiting to see what happens months down the line
Sega didn't seem to mind Nintendo with Bayo 2, I mean Bayo 1 still did poorly between 2 platforms but Nintendo funded a 2nd one to happen and it more or less worked, I doubt it would have worked so well in MS's case with TR but the timed exclusivity deal isn't going to make up for lost ground, even if it were to the gains would be minimal and it's already evident that Square are doing more deals with Sony so after this deal is done and the gains are small I can see Square requiring even more money from MS enxt time around and by then it will be absolutely out of the question not worth it because the gains will be none existent by then.
"That's why it has become all about timed exclusivity and small additional exclusive content in the console wars."
See to me that irks me more than anything because you're spot on, it is the new way of battling each other but one side has got exclusive deals that last forever without much effort or money needed and the other side is throwing money into a pit to appease their fans while losing out on the deal and the fans with it, I just don't see the point in buying into a console if it's going to lose it's exclusivity or the other that's becoming a monopoly by an easy default.
Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.
i figured either 6 or 12 months as that seems pretty standard for timed exclusive deals these days.
if U4 and TR go head to head i'm in for a really fun spring 2016!!

That's to bad for the developers. If I wait 6 months for the superior PC/PS4 versions, I can easily wait another 6 months for a Steam/PSN sale. I think sales are going to suffer from this deal.

Nobody cares by then when we have big new games geting released and it will sell like last gen remasters but not like a next gen PS4 game.
So, Feel Emotions, Experience Adventure/Action, Challenge Game, Solve puzzles and Have fun.
PlayStation is about all-round "New experiences" using new IP's to provide great diversity for everyone.
Xbox is always about Online and Shooting.
Nintendo is always about Fun games and milking IP's.
This game shouldn't even be timed exclusive in the first place.
