Street fighter and Mortal combat are like the only big names when it comes to fighting games.
So ofc they sell alot.

(no im not counting Smash.... not a serious fighting game)

so you arent counting tekken?

:P  okay Tekken is pretty big too.

http://vgsales.wikia.com/wiki/Best_selling_game_franchises

Tekken =  around 41million

Street fighter = around 36million

Mortal Combat = around 33 million

as a franchise its sold alot.

Its just my bias, I grew up playing lots of mortal combat and street fighter (not really much tekken).

Not sure why I didnt include it.

to be fair its 3D fighting game, the others are 2D :P

Now that you mentioned Tekken, the flood gates come open.
Killer instinct is pretty darn good too (not sure how good sales are, but its out now).

I played that on the Snes & N64.
Was probably my favorite fighting game s back then.

Wish the new game wasnt just Xbox 1.

Millions of people has downloaded it and its been pretty much #1 on Xbox store since XBO launched, confirmed by Kenn Lobb.

Well, that's sad.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Fighting games arent as dead as people think

Mortal Kombat is probably the only fighting franchise that will appeal to the more "casual" crowd. its easy to get into, hard to master, but fun to play either way. and its brutality and gore attracts the "dude bro" crowed, i mean how can it not? its fucking awesome. the last one was really good and brought back a lot of the players who used to play MK1/2/3 i expect this one to do the same.

it also helps that its one of the very few offline multiplayer games out there.

That description fits Super Smash Bros 4 perfectly...

Indeed =(

There is still room in the console market for established fighting games, for new IP is that I have my doubt.

It`s good that the game sold well, but I hope that doesn`t encourage them to continue the microtransaction deals as well. That seems like a bad stain on an otherwise excellent game.
