Forums - Nintendo - Your experiences getting Brawl

My friends had pre-ordered their copy at Gamestop, I hadn't so I went along to see if I could pick up an extra copy, god willing. Over 40 people had shown up, 30 or so at the time of the tournament. I entered the tournament for a good laugh and was soundly removed when the match reached sudden death. All in all it was a good time.

However one guy there apparently only showed up to play the tournament and had no intention of buying the game or a wii as he made it blatantly clear to anyone with a pair of ears that he hates Nintendo and loves Sony. After losing in his first match he and his trio of Sony enthusiasts whent over and played Motorstorm on the PS3 kiosk swooning orgasmically to the jagged aliasing and low framerates, trying to outdo the roars and cheers of people playing Brawl across the room.

We left for a bit to return later around midnight since they kicked everyone out till midnight after the tournament anyway so we went to Walmart to hang out a bit. Low and behold Walmart was having a midnight release too which I was able to snag a copy from. Eager to get back to Gamestop so that my friends could snag their copy before Gamestop gave it away (which they shouldn't do, but its Gamestop), we drove down the road and across the street we saw a procession of cars comming from gamestop and heading strait towards Wal-Mart (glad I didn't try and pick up one at the last second at Gamestop since as we learned later they only barely had enough for pre-orders).

Arriving back at Gamestop to the sight of the very same Sony malcontent and his crew out on the sidewalk, him screaming (in a half-mocking gesture), "Fuck Nintendo! Buy Metal Gear Solid 4! Nintendo sucks!" then they angrily went to their car and drove off. He was apparently upset their was no LCD 40" TV as a prize as he heard was made available by Nintendo at Nintendo stores. Though why he bothered to wait around the two hours and 15 minutes after the tournament was a mystery but if I had to venture a guess it would most likely have been so he take part in some video gaming event while imposing his gaming views on the helpless people waiting out in the cold for it to be midnight. We proceeded inside and quickly picked up their copy and all was well. and All was well.

Any experiences of your own to share?

There were about 60 people entered in my local Gamestop's tournament. 4 player matches at the start, and I got out in the first match...placed 2nd and the winner went on to win the whole tournament, so yeahh hehe. It was great fun though.

By midnight, there were a lot more preorderers who didn't play in the tournament, as well as plenty of people who didn't preorder, about 100-120 were inside and a little outside the store. It was packed TIGHT.

Anyway, I got my game a little after midnight and I've got about 20 hours under my belt now hehe.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Goddamn Sony Fanboys have to ruin everything

Heh I wish we had some hecklers at our GS, would have been fun to yell back. Nothing special here though. ABout 45-50 played in the tournament. Dozens started showing up by midnight just to pick up their copy and bounce.

I actually lucked out and won my first match (1v1) when we went to sudden death. Got royally spanked in round 2 though.

Here you go. Look at the end at about 4:40. Thats how I imagine it was.

I didn't even know some people really act like that in real life...

Me? I just went to Walmart picked the game up along with component cables and batteries, and that was it...

We had no money to buy this game, so me and my cousin went around the neighborhood asking people if they wanted us to shovel their snow for some money. Almost everybody had their snow shoveled but we eventually made the money and played the game for a couple of hours. It was fun.

I went in my local GameStop at the midnight launch and had to wait for about 30 minutes or so in line. They barely had enough copies to satisfy the 70+ people in the store.

When I first entered the store I caught a slight whiff of the famed "Otaku funk" at the door... But even that couldn't keep me away from my Marth!

I went to gamespot around noon. There were quite a few little kids with their parents and one really creepy guy who looked like a child molester who was just browsing (I s**t you not, it was really freaky). I picked the game (which I preordered) and left the store.

I walked into the local game store near my office at lunch today.

"Can I get a copy of Brawl?" I inquired.

"Sure," said the friendly clerk.

I paid $49.99 plus tax, took my copy of Smash Bros. Brawl, and made my egress.

Woohoo. Mr. Excitement--that's me.
