I got an Ouya so i can emulate pretty much anything from Dreamcast and earlier. I did a few Nes, N64, and SNES games and walked away very disappointed.

I would say that nothing is as good as I remember. They had an expiration date!! Maybe better on portable. I know Punch Out certainly is.....

That's just just your opinion though, if they had an expiration date as  general rule, the charm and appeal of Shovel Knight and of course retro gaming in general wouldn't be there. There are hundreds of NES/SNES era games which are just as playable and appealing today as they were back in the 80s/90s. There are many which seem crap now, but also did back in the day. Sift out the good stuff.

I know.  It's all opinion but somehow, even trying to be retro, those newer games (like my beloved Cave Story) feel new.  Can't explain it.

No love for this guy?

Even to this day, I still think the art style and graphics of the mega man games are great.

Old games are meant to be played on a CRT with the glorious scanlines. Thats why all the emulator downloading hipsters  are trying so hard to get that look with shaders.

Thats said, I dont think u can get satisfaction and appreciation by testing a few games of multiple systems hastily just to see how well your machine can emulate them.

I mean, Cave Story doesn't work under NES restrictions like games like Shovel Knight or Retro City Rampage try to do. Cave Story and Hyper Light Drifter looks better than even SNES games graphically speaking, because they aren't holding themselves to those constraints. Those use like PS1 level sprite art. They aren't even worth comparing, and are definitely not "retro." It's just typical pixel art. Comparing it is as fair as me sating that this:

Looks better than other retro NES games. Like, obviously it would.

Of course there is lol I just thought he was a little too obvious for the OP.

Batman

Might not be up to par with some other games here like Mega Man 5 and 6 but I think Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse still looks pretty sweet.
