No, it's an action adventure game. It's not even a little bit of an RPG. It doesn't even have RPG elements.

And Zelda is not "it's own thing." It's defined by a genre, just like everything else.

Calm down,I said that it's definetely an Action-Adventure title but it's so unique that you could say that is its own thing!:P:P:P:P:P

I would say yes. Dark Souls, Bloodborne and Darksiders are also RPG's imo.

Those are all RPGs, but Zelda isn't. The first two are dungeon crawlers with RPG elements, and the latter is a hack n slash game with RPG elements. Zelda is literally just an action adventure game. No RPG elements at all.

It really isn't.

This is probably my video game pet peeve. I feel strongly that it's an action-adventure game. In fact, I think it fits the description of action-adventure better than just about any other series. With a combination of real-time combat, puzzle-solving, and exploration, it strikes a smart balance between the demands of action and adventure games.

Apart from its sword-and-sorcery setting, it doesn't have much in common with role-playing games. The one exception is Zelda II, the only Zelda game that could reasonably fall under the banner role-playing game.

It's both at the same time but I'd say that Zelda is more of an RPG

I love Zelda, but it's not unique when it comes to genre. It divides it's world between overworld and dungeon, like a lot of games do. There's nothing about Zelda that makes it its own thing anymore than any other game with an identity.

It's an action rpg.

I don't think so. I've always considered a game's genre to be reflective of its primary mechanics, and Zelda's has pretty much always been utilizing the mechanics of action/adventure as its foundation. Whatever people consider to be RPG mechanics has been secondary (at best) in the Zelda series.

From Wikipedia: "A role-playing game (RPG and sometimes roleplaying game[1][2]) is a game in which players assume the roles of characters in a fictional setting. Players take responsibility for acting out these roles within a narrative, either through literal acting or through a process of structured decision-making or character development.[3]Actions taken within many games succeed or fail according to a formal system of rules and guidelines.[4]"

First sentence: Player assumes the role of Link in a fictional setting. Check

Second sentence: There's structured decision making and character development. Check

Third sentence: The developers put in rules about what items solve puzzles and beat bosses. Link may fail if he does not use the right weapon on a boss for example. Check

Just because you can't make Link a mage or a healer doesn't mean it's not an RPG. An absence of detailed character customization doesn't disqualify it from being an RPG.

Also who cares lol. Sometimes I think people just think the Legend of Zelda is too good to fit into any genre.

Its differnt from most action adventures though...but I agree it def. is a action adventure game, and not a rpg.
