Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo: E3 will focus on games launching in 2015 - Wii U's last year as focus?

My guess is that E3 2016 will be showcasing the next handheld, hence why the focus may not be on the Wii U..

E3 2016 will be all about the NX platform, which will be unveiled to be multiple hardware products -- new handheld, new console that share the same games and are built off the same hardware architecture.

We'll it doesn't necessarily say they will not show any 2016 games, just that they will highlight 2015 titles.

Oh right, well that's ok then! Not that I don't expect the WiiU's launches to start declining after this year still but hoping to see some great new announcements at e3 then!

Thats what I think too 2015 games will be the focus but theres will probably be 2016 games just they will be more focused on the 15 ones

People should really stop jumping to conclusions... No where does it say that they wont be showing any games for 2016... This continues to fit with my theory that the nx will be a handheld because they will be showing off a few more games for the wiiu this e3 for 2016 which will be releasing next year and it will keep the console people happy while releasing the NX handheld to make the handheld people happy. Next year should be wiius last year in terms of games and then in 2017, their console will be shown and will either launch in holiday 2017 or spring 2018

It is their typical "let the game releases die down strategy" that they do almost every gen.

I couldn't agree more with you my friend! I think that NX is a hanheld cause they developted the super stable 3D for something else untill Miyamoto wanted it to be included with the N3DS.E3 2016 will be the new handheld and some game sfor the Wiii U and 2017 like you said.

It def won't be NX. Ninten won't do that. They won't screw Ninten and Wii U fans like that. It's def being Wii U, and unless it's delayed to 2017, I don't really see it being cross gen. Zelda will be out around mid next year. No worries ; )

Nintendo would never delay their staple console Zelda game for its currently failing system so that it can also release it on their next, more hopeful one.

Bingo.

That sounds pretty good to me. I can only deal with so much teasing, and/or delays... I wouldn't like E3 2015 to be E3 2014 part II. Too much focus on 2015 (announcements, new games, delays, 2015 everywhere). Focusing on games that are set to release this year is a great strategy.

Although I wouldn't mind one or two 2016 games being revealed or teased.

Xenoblade, we're waiting for you!

"this year’s E3, where we will be highlighting games launching in 2015"

What's stopping them from highlighting 2015 games AND announcing 2016 games?

Not that I agree with this, because I don't, but someone could easily argue that if they were planning to talk about/announce any 2016 games, they wouldn't omit talking about what has undoubtably become Nintendo's most important 2016 title period, for the explicit reason that they specifically want to focus on 2015 games instead.

Like, that doesn't make any sense. I think that you're definitely right, but it completely contradicts their messaging. "We aren't showing this huge 2016 Wii U exclusive we've already shown twice because we want to focus on games that are coming out this year instead. You know, aside from all those 2016 games we're still going to announce."

Highlighting does not mean they won't announce games coming in 2016 it's just that the focus will be on games coming this year

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

E3's almost always "highlight" the games scheduled for this year. The big announcements of games further out are usually relegated to just a 1-2 minute teaser trailer. So in other words, this certainly doesn't mean no new Wii U game for 2016 will be announced. They will have at least 2 unannounced games I'm sure.
