They're scared and being over protective but it makes no sense.

The mobile market will in no way damage their consolemarke and as long as they don't start selling fully fledged pokemon and mario games on phone it will have a rather limited affect on their handheld market which looks like it'll decline anyway. Mobile presence will just to ensure that Nintendo can do whatever the hell they want on their dedicated gaming platforms.

Yup, Aside hoping they do it right (logical feeling to have) this is good. Based on past comments they will probably use these games to promote the console games or add to them.

Bigger is DeNA will help with their online infrastructure? That has to be good.

Yes this is also something to be excited about. Some may hate the idea of a premium online sevice which seems to be on the agenda but if you're actually a Nintendo fan I'm sure it'll be worth its while both in terms of rewarded content but also better online implementation in future consoles/games.

They better do this right then....

Time to put some effort into makeing some great Mario RPGs for the mobile phones!
I love RPGs and they translate really well to phone gameplay, so hopefully this means alot of rpgs on phones.

I still kinda have mixed feelings about this.

I'm cautiously optimistic. I think it's a good long-term move for Nintendo's business, but it's one thing to have a good idea, and it's another execute it well.

If Nintendo do execute this well, then their NX platform benefits from greater development resources and ease of development (due to more cross platform titles and shared tools/architecture), ensuring a steadier stream of Nintendo software which retains its high quality. Before this, Nintendo launch high-profile, commercially and critically successful smartphone games, which expands their audience. Nintendo's network orientated platform ensures greater long-term audience retention; "Nintendo" is the platform, not the box you play on. Quality of Life is also successful along side this, providing Nintendo with more revenue and profit.

If Nintendo don't execute well, then one or more of these ideas could fail. Crucially, though, Nintendo are setting up several long-term revenue generators: software on smart-devices, the dedicated gaming business, amiibo and quality of life.

I hope both this partnership with DeNA and NX are successful. Ultimately that would mean Nintendo retains control of their own platform while being more financially successful, which will ensure Nintendo are around for the long-term.

im a fan. im not angry, im happy.

I think games like brain age, pokemon shuffle, mario puzzles and dragons, nsmb minigames, kirby kanvas and lots of ds hits can achieve space on mobile.
But games like 3d mario, zelda, donkey kong like we know will still be on consoles.

dear god,.. my kid was sick yesterday and i was basically gone from the internet for a day. what the fuck happened yesterday?!?

Hmm, if the handheld part of it is like a smartphone, I wouldn't be very keep on that... I need buttons on my console. I don't want the handheld part becoming a mobile station...

Here is the thing, I don't think they are simply going turn the handheld producing section of Nintendo into Mobile producing section of Nintendo. What will happen is that Nintendo will most likely take thinks like Brain Age, Animal Crossing and older Pokemon games and Pokemon spinoffs like Pokemon Shuffle and whatever and put those on the mobile section. Games like Mario will be shared on both. New Pokemon titles, Fire Emblem, Zelda in Handheld sense would be NX.

I have to run, I like the change, I hope they also expand to "media" as well. (Patnerships with Sony, Disney, and Other Companies)

Well, as long as the usual good handheld games from Ninten come out on the mobile device thing, I'd be okay with it, most likely.

A lot of overreaction and overthinking!

I've edited the thread title to make it more accurate to what is in the thread. Nearly at 30% now, amazingly.

Where will it stop?

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

NIDENDO STOCK SOARING SELLL SELLL SELL

hold hold hold.

It will fall back but in the long run, if they do this right,.... huge!

Do people here realise how big the app market is in Japan?

Japan is the single biggest smart app market in the world, if I remember correctly, which makes this a potentially huge deal.

And lol at that stock going up and up, just goes to show that all they need to do is change strides and break tradition, which is what I've been wanting them to do for ages. I'm really, really happy about this news and I hope they manage to build a venture for the future and stop themselves from lagging several years behind the competition on almost all fronts; it's not doing them any favors and neither are their fans for making a debackle over this, appologists are harmful to any company and people should be cheering them on.

The greatest irony of it all? In the Wii's heyday, gamers were shouting that "this direction in gaming will steal funding and attention away from the games I enjoy!" and now people are going "Nintendo will divert funds and attention to mobile games and take it away from the games I enjoy!" For someone who's been a long time; it is not lost on me.
