Forums - Gaming - HBO PS3/PS4 Ban Could Be Lifted Soon Thanks To FCC

Yeah that is a crap article. Comcast isn't blocking any traffic, they just refuse to authenticate Comcast users on those platforms, but they are doing that as a content provider, not and ISP.

How convenient, given that there's an even chance your cable provider is your ISP.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Awesome. That was bullshit.

Why us this allowed on Xbox platforms but not PlayStation platforms?

There's a great chance, but the fact of the matter is that they aren't blocking traffic. If you have Comcast cable and another ISP, you still can't use HBO Go on your PS4 because blocking traffic isn't the issue. Likewise, if you have Direct TV and Comcast for your ISP, you're good to go on the PS4. What they're actually doing is refusing to work with Sony on getting the HBO Go app to connect to comcast servers, which is legal.

This PS3/4 ban should be illegal anyway. You pay for your internet. They can't, then, police which devices you use it on and for what purposes. If HBO Go is available via desktop browser, it should be available on a damned PS3.

It's not a ban. They just don't have their name on the drop-down list.

Is it not important for regulations to be consistent and true to their language and intent? Even if your cable company is also your ISP this situation doesn't fit within the context of the regulation. It is a cable company choosing to not allow a service that others provide. It is the equivalent of video game consoles having exclusive video games. Furthermore, should not such a ruling also apply to companies like Apple, which will be the only devices to have the standalone HBO subscription service? I am no fan of Comcast, as I have had problems with them in the past, but I think such things need to be consistent and fair, otherwise we don't live in a liberal politicy.

As far as I've read this is the same on Xbox platforms.

edit: Nevermind in the thread it was said that they made a deal.

I knew it was only a matter of time. That being said, you don't have the option for comcast. This is more likely false advertising. My subscription includes HBO go, but doesn't state the devices it won't work on, that I would expect from any other provider.

Sony should sue them too

The fcc is doing something not retarded?
