Forums - Sales - 3DS overtracked. When will ioi adjust?

Explanation (taken straight from my post in one of the weekly charts threads):

The 31st, the 3DS had shipped 18.7 million to japan (Nintendo's own words). At that time it had sold 18 million in Japan (we know this is correct because of Media Create and Famitsu). That means there were 700k on shelves, just in Japan. The problem about that, is that VGC says the 3DS had 300k on shelves at that time. For the entire world. And I'm sure you all understand that that is 100% impossible.

There you go. Even if there were not a single 3DS on shelves in the entire world except what we know is in Japan, it still has 700k on shelves. If we are going to be realistic, it also has at the very least 300k in both Europe and America, so there should be 1,3 million on shelves. That leaves us with an overtrack of 1 million.

EDIT, as per may 7th; we now know 3DS ltd shipments are at 52.06 million as of the quarter ending 31st march, which means that according to VGC it has sold ~150k more than it has shipped. Realistically, the 3DS is probably around 51 million now, not 52 million, and this could be seen from last q numbers as well.

I'm not sure it will ever be adjusted. Like the vita being undertracked or the ps4 being undertracked for the 10 million announcement next year. In the end he'll have the right numbers when they do the final shipment but I understand your frustrations.

He does normally adjust when it's this substantial. You only need to bring it to attention, which I hope I've done now.

LOL...You think that he agrees with you?If he was agreeing,he would have already done what you constantly ask for...

If he doesn't agree, he's wrong, because this is proven. There's no ifs or buts. If he doesn't agree with me, he is saying that Nintdndo doesn't know how many 3DSs they've shipped...

Sometimes he doesn't know where to put the numbers.  Like the 360.  It's heavily overtracked in the usa.

Proven by what? You think you are right?...Something on your aspect is very broken but I can't easily distinguish it as this aspect is inexplicable...

Where is it overtracked...?

well... well... the only thing that we can be certain is that no available video game sales data, whatever the source is, is accurate. We only have estimatives. Even when we have official announcements from companies we can´t be sure if they talking about "shipped" consoles or "sold on retail" consoles.

Read what he says.  It's pretty obvious it's overtracked.  One thing though,  people really should stop claiming it's undertracked slightly in some regions when over all its heavily overtracked.

Dude, did you read the OP? I explained it pretty well there. Proven by Nintendo's shipment numbers. They provide a per region breakdown, and because of MC and Famitsu, we know how much it has sold in Japan at the time (18 million), and we know how much it has shipped in Japan (18.7 million). 18.7-18=0.7, meaning there are 700k on shelves in Japan alone, but according to VGC there are only 300k on shelves in the world. It's literally impossible. There's nothing "broken" about it.

In parts of Europe, and Rest of World.

Would you mind explaining to me how it is possible that it isn't overtracked?
