Adobe doesn't take shading into mind, your brain does. If I were to sample a night time picture, it would also say a white surface is grey.

But brown is closer to gold than to black :) Gold in general is hard to to on a screen, it's often more like ochre.

The black is lace. So its see through. Its picking up whatever is behind the dress.
