I think the HDD would only be available in new 360's at first.
And in the future it wouldn't have to cost too much to upgrade to a 500gig, ex: Newegg.com sells 500gig for $144. Add a $50 MS "we like money" fee +$5 cheap plastic casing and you have a $199 500gig 360 HDD... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148294

....you honestly think they'd be that cheap? In England, a 20GB hard drive is £70...500gb? Well, I dont really have £500 really.

I find the original elite to 60GB rumor more believable.
They would have to change the pricing scheme of their xbox hard drives then. MS sells their hard drives expensive as hell. I can't imagine what a 500 GB HD would cost. (Not saying it won't happen, just wouldn't sell worth a shit with their HD pricing the way it is now)

Microsoft probably could afford to sell a 120GB hard-drive for $80/$100 and a 250GB hard-drive for $150/$175 but, with how overpriced their hard-drives have been since day one, I wouldn't expect this from them ...
In my opinion, a 500GB drive is unrealistic because it will (probably) be a $300+ hard-drive for laptops when released, and it would be far too expensive to include in any console at a reasonable price.

Aren't people complaining right now about the HD prices? And you want them to use SSD?
Ms already charges $200 for the 120gb HDD, the 500GB HDD would be crazy.
We have to consider current MS pricing schemes when factoring in such a rumor.
Unless MS switches to USB HDDs, or something else, there WONT be a 500gb HDD for an elite....Not in the next year.
If MS did include 120gb HDDs in the Premium (which I find very, very unlikely), the most one could hope for would be a 250 or 320gb solution for the Elites....Even then, that'd be rather expensive in the way of a negligible price drop soon. I'd rather have one huge price drop on the Elite to sub-$399 USD rather than keep it @ $450 for a bigger HDD.
Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
