Forums - Gaming - An 1 world war FPS could bring a lot of new cool and brutal elements to Story and MP.

1 WW was basically the worst war in the 20 century, and to experience this in a game would be absolutely breath-taking.
Sometimes the enemy wasn't the worst part of the war, but the trenches themselves with all the sickness and dead bodies laying around, the rats etc etc.
and the murderous Gas smartly invented by the germans but was hard to control so it could easily backfire due for the wind changing direction and then they invented the damn cool gas-masks that litterly could be used in a horror movie or at halloween. This war got so many great stories that should be told, and the scenario around the war itself are the perfect map for a Game.

I already know there is a game called The Trench but, it's pretty old now.

No disrespect intended towards those who fought and died in this war, on neither sides. It's basically just an idea.

I think it's time to move back from "modern warfare". If they take the progression they've made up to this point and apply it to an earlier conflict, from a technical standpoint, they could easily produce the most compelling games ever made relative to those moments in history.

WW2 is far more interesting in my opinion.

Then i advice you to read or learn more about WW1, you might be suprised. The only reason why we hear less about WW1 is because of the lack of publicity compared to WW2. But the WW1 was the worst, and since we haven't had a proper WW1 game yet, i think it is an good for originality. If i want a new WW2 game, i want a third person puzzle game, that is about trying to break free from a Consentration camp and try escaping the german countries and achieve freedom, that would be an intense and horrifying game, were the germans comes into your house, drags you out, places you int he ghetto, and you would need to walk around, trying to get food, smugle stuff and later, you have to do the same in the consentration camps, sneak into their offices to find out what they are planning. and then you a few other people will need to plan an escape etc etc. that would be pretty cool.

I am sick and tired of the Americans vs Germans, cause the russians, the English the norwegians, The polish ec etc did actually do a lot more over the 5 years life-span and those stories haven't been told, since Hollywood basically owns the world marked when it comes to movies, and US patriotisme is very strong. No disrespect. i just try to aim for originality in a new game, to get something fresh and new

For the multiplayer, WW1 would be a serious watershed moment. You can't rambo in WW1. Mass team tactics and large offensives would be an absolute necessity. Would be interesting to see how that would catch on.

Well, we don't need to be that dead on realistic lol. There was other missions then just the trenches. Soldiers did go out and scout, spying etc etc. barbed wires all over the forest areas etc etc. and they did in fact have canons and grenades as well. and tense conflicts in large parts of the different battlefields and a lot of these trenches did get runned over. and then we have the magical moment where they all came together and celebrated christmas, and that you can get to know these people, and the day after you have to kill them lol. There is sure an intense story to scrap together if people care looking.

While it would be a great setting, it would be hard to develop an exciting game revolving aroung trench warfare. Just as d-joe said, it just wouldn't be very fun. I agree though thst ww1 was a very brutal war. They made a game called valiant hearts about ww1 thst was very well received last year.  It was a more story based game instead of combat.  It might have some of the things you are looking for.

That is why i think it is an good idea to start with World war 1 cause of the depressive atomsphere, the muddy trenches and all that. and add a damn great story to it, and overun trenches sounds so damn cool, with old M1 rifles lol
