Forums - Sales Discussion - January 2015 NPD Thread! Hardware estimates up!

I think probably this will be the smallest gen since the PSX-N64 era.

PS4 - 105 million
XBox One - 50 million
Wii U - 18 million

Is my guess, that would be 173 million consoles.

PS2 - 150 million
XBox - 24 million
GameCube - 22 million

= 196 million consoles, more if you want to count the Dreamcast

I want to hear from the people who said that price is the main reason people decide for one console over the other.

Did you sleep through November and December?

Won't Halo have been a big factor in that? I really think XBO will wake up with Halo 5 and GoW4 regardless of pricing. IMO they're the first essential software for a lot of the core 360 audience.

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

Ha another win for Sony. And it is just going to keep getting worse the Xbox one now that all the exclusive games are releasing for PS4.

So, Vita seriously undertracked?

Looking that way. It's a pity undertracked % for Vita still equates to "miles behind" :(

It should really give Sony some impetus to get "something" new out there for it in the West though. Now they just need to find another Minecraft...

PS4, ladies and gents! World wide backing of the PS4 will slowly continue to tip the scales in its favor in the US market as more support, exclusives and money are generated.

Very tranquil NPD thread. Abismal sales all around.

Several of our good friends on november and december threads are missing today.

Sony better think on how to sustain sales. Some people would preffer to buy ps4/x1 barebones at 350/300 than with two top AAA for 50 more.

You should tell microsoft so they can bounce back xb1 price to 399, cause price doesn't matter.

Meh, pretty meh.

Video game makers need to find a way to dish out more software. Coming out with the same games will keep the same fanbase and has no growth factor.

New ips are risky but more beneficial overall. Destiny launch brought out an amazing PS4 month. If Destiny had the name Call of duty:Space or something like that then the growth factor would have been less.

HW revenue dropped... but considering X1 sold for 100-150 less for the month it could mean that the HW drop wasn't big... X1 up, WiiU up, PS3 and X360 probably down... the rest we will see soon.

Last year we know PS4 (with half a month shortage) was close to 2:1 the XO.

We can also assume XOne sold a little better than last year, however a 25% price drop wouldn´t give a less than 10% impact on overall sales.

Sure the PS3 and 360 both could have droped 50%, but they also cost almost half the PS4+XO, and assume that WiiU is flat.

So, what is filling the gap of last generation and moving the consumers? Remember that November and December weren´t fantastic month either.

Again, it´s worrisome we don´t have a incrise YoY, in possible 100mi home console population.

Dreadfull drop indeed.

Read the flaming post before firing off bs. Are Halo 5 and Gears of War 4 out right now?

Of course price matters.  However I don't think $350 was the only reason for the big holiday boost. Raising it to $399 again now would be stupid given there are no games to make people want the system beyond those who have already bought it right now.
