whats going on with the SW how the hell is XB1 selling more?

Well, it's not! Here is the Microsoft PR excerpt:

more game sales per console than any other platform

They only talked about tie ratio win, we can easily assume PS4 did in fact sell more software overall during january.

Because if Microsoft had sold more SW overall they certainly would have told us...

Ah, I missed that wee spin. I agree, if Xb one had sold the most total software then MS would have said that explicitly. Playing the tie ratio game means having to search the data for "winning" news and not finding much. Gotta hand it to Xbox gamers though, they do buy a lot of games.

What you said.

Though I seriously doubt the suggestion that lead to T_f's comment. I don't see digital sales being so different as to cause that big of an effect on physical sales. Would be interesting to get a break down from a few 3rd parties regarding digital market share between PS4 and Xb one. I doub't we'll ever get it. I doubt we'll ever get overall console digital sales, as all the info I've seen so far incorporates PC, and doesn't give a game by game split. And often times the "digital" sales data includes subscriptions and DLC so you can;t even get an accurate physical/digital spilt at a macro level.

Well, my original comment was just a speculation, trying to give one possible angle on the software discrepancy. I don't claim it to be a fact.

What leads me to speculate that way is a report this Christmas that XOne was purchased more as a gift, while PS4 was bought more as a personal purchase. More XOne's as gifts leads me to believe more XOne users (compared to PS4) are children (persons under 18), who don't have credit cards usually required to make a digital purchase. Thus skewing digital sales more to the PS4 side.

Just a theory.

It's a reasonable theory. But I guess the point is moot now that our eyes have been opened to the fact that MS was not claiming to be number 1 in software, only that they were number 1 in tie ratio. Which as number 1's go is a bit of a number 2, really.

You have to send a positive message. What good PR team is going to throw negative things out.

Current gaming platforms - Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Wii U, New 3DS, PC

They SHOULD have said: "XBox One has lost it's 2 month winning streak in January to the PS4 and also did not sell the most software."

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

It's on track to be overtracked by about 30k. That's 50% off. Big big overtracking.

I ment in the bigger picture of things. 20-30k overtracked isn't that big of a deal. Obviously, a console selling so low will have higher percentages of overtracking/undertracking because the numbers are so low to begin with. Take xbox one (I know, it's an extreme) in Japan for example, some times, Famitsu or MC will have it at around 1k while the other one at around 200. Would you be telling me that since there's a 400% difference between both trackers that both are terrible at tracking console sales?

Edit: I'm not trying to argue you for the sake of arguing, I just think that percentages of over and undertracking shouldn't be taken so seriously when the console is selling so low to begin with. 25k is nothing in the grand scheme of things. That's roughly 6k less per week.

In the long run its important.  It means the Wii U is not likely to be majorly up yoy as vgchartz was showing.

Praise needs to be given to their PR team. It takes a lot of skill to create those statements, heck, to even think of the categories to use to come out on top.

Still, regarding my theory, no matter how accurate or wrong it is, it can still be used to explain their spin of "attach rates" and why it is higher on XOne.

that's called tie ratio and is a normal and important figure
just like sonys 4.4 ww ltd tieratio

and now ms is just shouting out the have the highest tie ratio in january npd.
it just sucks they don't give the f*ing actual number. but they never do. neither sony is doing that, if they win the console sales...

so where excatly is the spin?

Hardware drop was expected but still worrisome.

Those recordbreaking launches didn´t lived up to the chalenger of mobile gaming.

HW revenue dropped... but considering X1 sold for 100-150 less for the month it could mean that the HW drop wasn't big... X1 up, WiiU up, PS3 and X360 probably down... the rest we will see soon.

Last year we know PS4 (with half a month shortage) was close to 2:1 the XO.

We can also assume XOne sold a little better than last year, however a 25% price drop wouldn´t give a less than 10% impact on overall sales.

Sure the PS3 and 360 both could have droped 50%, but they also cost almost half the PS4+XO, and assume that WiiU is flat.

So, what is filling the gap of last generation and moving the consumers? Remember that November and December weren´t fantastic month either.

Again, it´s worrisome we don´t have a incrise YoY, in possible 100mi home console population.
