it is safe therefore to say that Pachter is not a clock.

The PS4 wasn't priced that aggresively, the fact its pouring in profits is strong evidence of that. In terms of profit there is always a balance between profit margins and sales, so its never a simple equation of higher price = higher profits.
Patcher must be talking about the US because there is no competition worldwide for sony to even bother lifting a finger. They will come first and make a profit without having to sacrfice either.
Back to the OP:
In regards to the Wii U, I'd say Nintendo don't seem to be in denial they're doing what they should do, making some money from the WIi U with software and satisfying the userbase. Whether they've learned that they need to target the core gaming market more effectively with a powerful system and robust social capabilities is something we won't know for another 2 years.
It sort of sounds like Sony wanting to be profitable is a bad thing whenever it comes from him. Am I just imagining it? o_o
Hmm
Pachter is stupid, as a gaming analyst and as business analyst.

well you don't get profitability pricing it like PS3 as PS3 showed
I quite agree with his assessment about Nintendo and third parties. They're gone, they're not coming back.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
From the original article, he also says this about Sony:
"... I think Sony was sincere in saying that they don't care if Microsoft moves a lot of consoles, but the truth is they care this week. They don't want to be in second. They don't mind if they end up in second, but they want to be in first as often as they can, so it's good for gamers."
Sony wants to win, but not at all costs like MSoft.
And regarding Nintendo, he goes and says:
"They need a new console that's competitive with Xbox One and PlayStation 4. If Xbox can sell at $349 Nintendo could make it and sell for $249. They won't because they still live in that old console world where they think they need to make a profit on the hardware."
So MSoft, which makes thousands of millions in profit every quarter and is willing to win no matter what, is selling its console at a loss for $349 and yet a financially struggling Nintendo could launch today an XboxOne like console for $249!?
Yeah, sure.
Please excuse my bad English.
