You should definitely try Half-Life 2 and BioShock! Trust me, you won't regret it!

Agreed.

IkePoR, if you're looking for atmospheric, deliberate first-person shooters with good stories, look no further than these two. Half-Life 2, especially, is brilliant in the way it tells its story indirectly. Much like Retro with Metroid Prime, the developers at Valve "show, don't tell" their story in Half-Life 2.

Some other great single-player campaings can be found in Halo: Combat Evolved, Half-Life, Red Faction, Medal of Honor (which you mentioned), F.E.A.R., GoldenEye 007, Perfect Dark, Star Wars: Republic Commando, Unreal, Call of Duty, and the original Killzone.

I loved the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare campaigns, thought it was a very entertaining series with some good twists and shocking moments.

Rarely hear anyone praise the story in the cod games but they are very well done.  They actually put a lot of effort into them, unlike other FPSs that just put in a singleplayer for the sake of having a singleplayer mode.

See a lot of mentions of Half Life and Bioshock, which reminds me: I've played Infinite and it was great; I also loved Metro: Last Light.

Of note: I've tried Crysis and didn't care much for it; Borderlands has always looked excellent; Mirror's Edge gave me motion sickness. And I never knew there were FPS Star Wars games.

"You should be banned. Youre clearly flaming the president and even his brother who you know nothing about. Dont be such a partisan hack"

Bioshock 1: Slower game with a great story
Deus Ex: Human Revolution can be played stealthily if you are so inclined

ALSO, Grand Theft Auto 5 for PS4, X1, and (soon to be) PC can be played entirely in First Person.

Platinums: Red Dead Redemption, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Terminator Salvation, Uncharted 1, inFamous Second Son, Rocket League

spec ops the line, fallout 3 (if that counts), killzone 2

Deus Ex: Human Revolution is slow-paced. It has rpg and stealth elements, fucking love that thing.

Call of Juarez Bound in Blood is my favorite "pure" first-person shooter. The story is not award-winning material, but it's good imo.

If you're feeling really oldschool, there's stuff like Doom and Star Wars Dark Forces. They can take some tweaking to configure modern controls (like strafing), but they're pretty fun games if you like oldschool fps.

Other than that, there's the obvious Bioshocks and Half-Lifes out there.

Easy. Half-Life 1, Half-Life 2, Duke Nukem 3D, Shadow Warrior, Quake 1, Quake 2, Quake 4, Doom 1, Doom 2, Doom 3, Hexen 1, Hexen 2, Heretic, Metroid Prime and Unreal (Not tournament)

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon was great.

/Edit: Deus Ex!

Some of my favourites: Metroid Prime series, Bioshock 1/2, Battlefield: Bad Company (only the first one), Far Cry 3/4, Killzone, Resistance and CoD. I also generally play Borderlands by myself and it's still really fun in single player.

It makes me sick that no one has said Portal 2 yet! Tsk tsk VGChartz.

8th gen predictions. (made early 2014)
PS4: 60-65m
WiiU: 30-35m
X1: 30-35m
3DS: 80-85m
PSV: 15-20m

The new GTA5 for PS4/XB1 now has FPS view....something to think about =)

But like many have mentioned; Half-Life series and Borderlands
