Forums - Sony Discussion - Opinion Piece: Sony Likely to Acquire Ready at Dawn Following The Order 1886

I think if they wanted to be purchased, Sony would own them already. Maybe it's a situation like Insomniac, where they don't want to be bought.

I chuckled about this supposed bashing of The Order based on nothing but popularity.

They are playing a dangerous game this way. It canbe so easy for Sony to just step back and watch them die. We saw Sony do it at least twice last gen. Publish a game from a developer then leave them high and dry when the situation got tough. It sucks for these second party devs. Since they don't have any IP to fall back on

Guys this is all nothing but speculation. It would be no different than ma saying they are likely to buy it

but if gnikananab was to say it then it would be true.

The Order 1886 is RAD's 1st new IP, if the game does well then I think Sony would be open to purchasing RAD, it all depends on whether they would want to be purchased.

Personally I think if it's mutually desired then they should go for it, same applies to other studios like Quantic Dream.
I would have thought Insomniac would have been a studio that Sony would like to acquire, but I guess Insomniac wants to remain privately owned.

I'd like for Sony to buy some indie studios and maybe merge them with the likes of Pixel Opus, to create a larger studio.

Yep... Sony to buy RaD, QD, Inominiac, From Software and Capcom... burn the munnies Sony.

before the Order RaD made nothing but ports

No...they made 3 of the highest rated PSP games, and those weren't ports. IMO Ghost of Sparta was the best game on the platform.

They should buy Quantic Dream, Ready at Dawn, and Insomniac and I've been saying that last one for awhile.

Duke of Playstation Plus

Warden of Platformers

I can see RaD being acquired if The Order does well enough to warrant turning it into a multi-game franchise. But only if it does well enough to warrant turning it into a multi-game franchise.

I don;t think Sony sees QD as a big enough money earner to warrant being purchased. Seems like Sony and QD are both pretty comfortable for the current relationship to remain.

Hopefully they dont buy them and then this game ends up meh

Sony might make questionable business decisions some times (all right lots of times), but one thing they are almost guaranteed not to do is buy a studio before they know whether their magnum opus game is a success. Sony might announce an acquisition before the end of the financial year, but that will be at least a few weeks post launch and once the metascore is settled. So Sony will have the necessary information to know that buying RaD is a good idea, or not as the case may be.

I'm glad I missed the hoohaa over the ambiguous phrasing of your post.

The game seems like it's built to make profit so commercial success is almost a sure thing. Then, with the second title they'll have more funds allotted for multiplayer, expanding the lore/universe and making a game in the same scope of Uncharted 2. It makes sense for Sony to pick them up but as others have pointed out... why didn't they do that with Insomniac?

Because I don't think Sony just buys up studios just for the sake of it. There's a discussion, agreement, and then an execution of the acquisiton. Of course, I'm not 100% positive, but I doubt they've ever acquired a studio that didn't want that.

Ted Price from Insomniac games addressed them not being 1st party a few years ago , his answer was we have been given the opportunity to be part of Sony on a number of occassions on very favourable terms.

we have a strong relationship with them and have a strong track record of producing IP's for Sony under contract that are now a big part of Sony's library. all this was achieved while remaining independent and this unique relationship allows us to continue to work with Sony has an almost a defacto 1st party but with the freedom to explore other avenues that comes with our independence .

Yep, can see such an acquisition, along with Quantic after the release of their first PS4 game. Sony generally purchases at least two teams a gen, so those would be the likeliest of candidates, this time around.

Off  the top of my head those are the two , can you think of any more canidates , I believe that Sony funding this title is a sign of their confidence in RAD , they saw how they handled themseves on psp  becoming a bright spot there in regards to western developers, now this step up to large scale development on par with what would be expected from a Sony 1st party makes for the ideal test.
