I am surprised that Cruis'n for the Wii did not make millions for them. That thing had "blockbuster" written all over it.

You're being sarcastic I hope? That game had the worst graphics seen in over ten years and a 21% on gamerankings.

I was.  I assumed that comment did not need a /sarcastic tag on it.

Remember Midway made Stranglehold for the PS360 and it costed them 30 million to develop it. Google the story if you like, the the game went and bombed like all hell.

Whats funny is that they haven't learned anything. Reading that release they are planning to do the same thing in 2008 as they did in 2007. Casual shovelware to the Wii likely with more expensive projects that will likely bomb on the PS360.

Havent learned anything, and will continue paying the price for it.

not good for them

Ah yes, I forgot about Stranglehold. Oh man, so much hype for a big budget flop.

The worst part? You're right, they haven't learned a thing.

What has Midway done in the last 5 years, anyway?

There is no such thing as a console war. This is the first step to game design.

Well here's the least surprising financial news in a while. Midway's ongoing train wreck status is reflected in their dismal financials. Revenue is down, costs are up, profits are WAY down. You can see how no one has much faith in this company due to its dismal stock pricing. Shares of Midway only cost $1.77! At that rate, I could get over 300 shares with my paycheck for this week, heh. But who in their right mind would want to own Midway stock?

From a financial standpoint, Stranglehold was the biggest disaster of 2007. You really have to wonder wtf the heads of this company were thinking when they greenlighted that one (it released TWO WEEKS after Halo!) Notice how vague they are when discussing the upcoming year. Don't mention any games specifically, do they? I really doubt this company will still be in business two years from now.

Just part of the ongoing trend of third-party financial struggles/consolidation into mega-publishers.

Ubisoft and other companies have shown that HD consoles can be very lucrative. So before people start blaming HD consoles for Midway's problems they should instead look at the games themselves. There have been companies that lost money and went bankrupt long before HD consoles came on the scene.

OK, I took a look at Midway's recent releases. Here's their top 10 sellers on the current generation of consoles and handhelds:

1) Happy Feet (DS): 610k
2) Happy Feet (Wii): 350k
3) Mortal Combat Unchained (PSP): 320k
4) Unreal Tournament 3 (PS3): 310k
5) Stranglehold (360): 220k
6) Blacksite Area 51 (360): 180k
7) Game Party (Wii): 170k
8) Midway Arcade Treasures (PSP): 150k
9) Rampage Total Destruction (Wii): 140k
10) Stranglehold (PS3): 130k

Now that's just depressing...

For some reason some of those numbers are only for North America. For example Stranglehold (360) and Blacksite Area 51 (360).

Made a lot 1) Happy Feet (DS): 610k
Made some 2) Happy Feet (Wii): 350k
Made some 3) Mortal Combat Unchained (PSP): 320k
Lost but may make money in the end 4) Unreal Tournament 3 (PS3): 310k
Huge loss 5) Stranglehold (360): 220k
Lost 6) Blacksite Area 51 (360): 180k
Made some 7) Game Party (Wii): 170k
Made some 8) Midway Arcade Treasures (PSP): 150k
May have lost a little 9) Rampage Total Destruction (Wii): 140k
Huge loss 10) Stranglehold (PS3): 130k

lol, just wait until they release tons of crap games for the wii/DS to make back the money they lost.  And straglehold was not a bad game, it was just released at a bad time and delayed for the PS3.
