Forums - Nintendo - 32 devs asked what they want from Nintendo's next gen handheld

Tagged games:

A lot of interesting opinions and suggestions! Quite a few seemed to be rstyer frequent. I liked a lot of what I read actually, but Nintendo doesn't seem to be interested in what 3rd party developers think so I don't we'll see anything of this :p

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

So pretty much:

- account system like everyone else
- unified OS between their home consoles and handhelds like Apple does
- more power
- better and potentially bigger screens

The devs quite formulated it different. The things named often here you miss are:

 * better  Streetpass/better Miiverse integration

* more inputs

* and a lot of the devs want to be surprised of the next crazy thing from Nintendo

Oh I know they said more. Obviously there are some devs that wanted something a bit more unique, I just listed the most common ones.

Well Nintendo is apparently listening:

Thanks @Emi1yRogers! This is amazing feedback from our talented partners, We don't do enough of this. As Frasier would say, I'm listening.

Pretty much things that Iwata had already confirmed and things that are obvious.

-Iwata has said how they plan to make their devices account based, they have slowly started to incorporate this into their current devices.

-Iwata has already said they want to make their next devices more unified, "like brothers", and they they plan on making them share a common architecture and operating system.

-more power is obvious, considering 3DS/New 3DS are somewhere between PSP & Wii in terms of specs and able to display Wii level visuals and recieve Wii ports, I would say the next device will be between Vita & Wii U while being able to handle Wii U level visuals at a lower resolution and be capable of recieving Wii U ports.

-Nintendo handhelds always have bigger and better screens with each new generation. 3DS currently has a resolution of 400x240, slightly below PSP at 480x272. Vita has a 960x544 resolution, so if the next handheld is slightly lower than that like 3DS is to PSP, than it will likely have a 854x480 resolution. As for size, something like 5 inches give or take depending on standard/XL model sounds about right.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

1280x720 screen should be cheaper than dirt next time out. If Nintendo drops 3D, that will save them a lot in cost, battery life, and processing power that 3D eats up.

If the GPU is designed to be in the ballpark of a Wii U, which certainly would be possible by 2016, then you want a decent screen on the thing.

A sub HD screen in 2016 when even $150 tablets will have HD displays will just be laughable, Nintendo can't live on their own island any more. Maybe when the more expensive PSP was the only competition, sure that worked, but in today's world flooded with tablets and smart devices, consumers, even kids know a cheap quality display when they see one.

Ya but the Wii U gamepad has an 854x480 screen and it doesn't come off as low-quality. Honestly I think the next handheld will look like a slimmer/sleeker Wii U gamepad with a 5" screen and 3DS style analog nubs.

The Wii U screen looks cheap as hell. It looks like an LCD display from a cheap, old portable DVD player circa 2005. No one looks at that screen and goes "wow", lol.

I have a older Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 tablet with a 8-inch display that I got for under $200 that looks light years better than the crap screens Nintendo uses and is a far bigger display (1280x800 resolution).

Look how far Arm tech. has come along, imagine 2-3 yrs from now.

http://www.dailytech.com/ARM+Announces+Next+Generation+64Bit+CortexA72+CPU+Design+MaliT880+GPU/article37127.htm

Nintendo literally could have a "big brother" higher spec'd Arm console, and the lower HH version with toned down res/effects.

If it wasn't for all this "Wii U absorbed into next console talk" that just adds confusion, the Arm consoles seems like the path Nintendo and its devs want to go.

854x480 is U pad res. so I think they will opt for higher, and specifically, at the very minimum go with Vita res. which is  qHD or "quarter HD ".

A lot of these requests sound like such basic features for modern gaming.

A unified account system.
HD screens.
Up to date specs.

Hopefully nintendo takes their feedback into some serious consideraton... I doubt it though.
