The Condemned series may be continued thanks to the generosity of the rights holder.
The Condemned rights currently belong in entirety to Jace Hall. Hall founded and for many years was CEO of Monolith Productions, which developed Condemned: Criminal Origins and Condemned 2: Bloodshot.
Hall took the rights to Condemned with him when he left his role at Monolith, and according to a recent Facebook post, is interested in lending them to someone who might do something with them.
“I helped to create a video game console franchise called Condemned. I currently own the entire franchise,” Hall wrote.
“I am consistently asked when a third game might be created. Since I am focused on other things, and will be for quite some time, this franchise is just sitting there.
“I am contemplating finding an interested and proven indie development team AND PROVIDING IT TO THEM, so that they can take over the franchise and move it forward.
“As an indie, it can be very hard to get marketing/media attention for a title that you work on. This franchise is already quite known, has market demand, and is in an innovative genre/category.”
Hall receives a slew of supportive comments in response to the idea, and the news is being spread widely – so keep an ear out over the next few years for stirrings of a Condemned revival.
The first Condemned game released in 2005 for Xbox 360, with a PC port the following year. The sequel released for PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2008. Both games were first-person action affairs with adventure elements, tasking the player with investigating grisly crimes.
I really hope a good studio takes his offer, as I really enjoyed the first two games. It doesn't seem likely, but it is nice to see the IP is not entirely dead.
