Forums - Nintendo - Pokken might be the 3D Pokemon action game many fans dreamed of.

Good, now that your demands have been met, will you cease your hostilities against GameFreak? :P

What? Of course not, lol. This has nothing to do with Gamefreak's dramatic drop in quality since HGSS. Until Gamefreak makes a Pokemon that's better in every way than HGSS/Platinum, I will remain hostile. Every new entry has done something better, but none since those games have done everthing better. If Gen 7 isn't that monumental step it should be, expect a massive meltdown.

Yeah, pokken could be much more than it seems to be.

I wanted a pokemon game that mimic the kanto world(but not only the 150, but mostly them), but in 3D, 3rd person, chosing starter, getting badges and go to beat elite four and champion.
But the battles are like a 2D fighting game(i like 2d more), where you have until 6 pokemon and you can switch among them in the middle of the battle.(if oponent have less, you choose the same number)
They should keep leveling up pokemon and evolution, but with adaptations(less diference among different levels for instance). Effectiveness should be there too, status effects too, abilities, but all adaptated for working on a fighting game.
Anywhere in the game you can start a online battle.
Then, release a game of the johto region, then a game of hoenn, and so on. But the games are adictive, if you have both, you can play in all regions in the same game.
Ok, i know its not happening.

Lol, the fact that this game exists, and it's not that, pretty much confirms that not happening. It has 2D fighting elements, but the battles are definitely 50/50 on being 3D and 2D. The 3D combat seems just as complex as the 2D combat, which is awesome.

There seems to be some leveling system, but I don't thing it will, or should, effect stats. Instead, I think it might be a way to introduce a slight customizable moveset for each Pokemon, where you learn more moves as you level up. Something like the moves in Smash 4, where they are slight variations, rather than full on movesets. I don't think there will be standard evolution, though there might be something where you can train NFE Pokemon outside of battle somehow, and then you use them in battle once they've evolved fully.

I don't know about status effects, but stat buffs and debuffs are confirmed. The assist Pokemon Emolga lowers the opponents speed, and Machamp used some move like Bulk Up that seemed to boost his attack. Gardevoir also had some type of Light Screen/Barrier move. I'm assuming these are the moves mapped to the A button, given their nature.

The funny thing is that I made a thread saying that the combat of a game like this should resemble the combat in action games like Devil May Cry, but with the balance and influence of fighting game mechanics. I even said they should get someone big who works on fighting games to work on it to make sure it can remain competitive. I got reamed because the idea was "not Pokemon." Then months later, that's pretty much exactly the combat system we're getting. :P

just hoping this actually releases in the U.S. :(

It's pretty much confirmed that it will. Serebii think it will be a simultaneous release when it comes out on the Wii U.

Blame Pokémon fans who keep buying the same old games.

Fire Emblem was about to get cancelled and what does Intelligent Systems do? Make the best scoring and best selling Fire Emblem in the series!

Expect no major change if sales keep up.

Was this even confirmed for Wii U yet? I wouldn't get too excited for this game considering the possibility of never being able to play it is still there.

While that may be a possibility, is a highly unlikely one. Serebii even thinks the game will release WW simultaneously.

... I'm sorry but a new region, new pokemon and slightly revamped mechanics are good enough for me. They aren't the same old same old. They add enough new to feel fresh while still remaining Pokemon. I have never not said "wow" while playing a new pokemon game even the remakes.

But they are. Pokémon is the CoD of RPGs.
Last time I said "wow" to a Pokémon game was generation 2.

I'm not blaming anyone but Gamefreak. The newer Pokemon games aren't let downs because they're the same, because they are not the same. They're let downs because the stories are worse (except for Black and White), the content has been severely stripped out, the post game content have been lacking, the intracacy of characters and there relationship has been overly simplified, and everytime they make a major improvement, they take it out of the next game instead of improving/expanding it and adding more stuff like they used to.

Fire Emblem wasn't selling poorly because it had disappointing games. It was selling poorly because it's a niche franchise. The 3DS was the right console at the right time for them.

I do expect major change from them. They've proved themselves before, and even though ORAS isn't the best in the series, it is at least better than XY, and that's an incremental step in the right direction.

No, it's not. You clearly have no idea what you're talking about.

I'm glad I could inspire this post! (even if it was entirely unintentional)

I pretty much agree. This game really isn't like anything that I've seen, it just seems to borrow from many things and melt it all together as one competitive action experience, which is great. I remember a while back there was a thread about the lack of 3D games on the Wii U and Smash Bros. was cited as something that should've transitioned (which I totally disagree with, but I digress). Well, this can fill that hole. Now we have some sort of 3D action fighting whatever on the console, and it seems to look and play great. And it's Pokemon. It's a win-win-win...win.
