I noticed this yesterday, it deserves it because it's better than Halo in every way.

For me is overrated, to short campaign and a forced history, is not a bad game but not the best ever...

CoD4 is a great (multiplayer) game. It deserves the incredibly high sales.
We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai
It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps
We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick
i personally like this game better than halo. the campaign is short but action packed and doesnt have a confusing storyline like halo 3, and the online is way better. it has way more game modes, and it has the class system which allows you to unlock and customize your own guns and classes.
it also doesnt have achievements online, so you dont get little kids screaming "hey guys hey guys! can you help me get the mongoose mowdown achievement?
| naznatips said: http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/51482 Linking this article for a reason. In it Valve says that The Orange Box sold over 1 million on 360 and another few hundred thousand on PS3 (reporting shipped of course) but that the PC sales of the game were signifficantly higher than both combined by the double digit percentages. This implies that The Orange Box has sold well over 2 million on PC, and much of that was on Steam. So yes, as Shio said, CoD4 sales on PC could easily be well over 1 million now given how it's charted in sales tracking. Lombardi goes on to say the PC market is healthy, but not in American retail sales. He says in other countries like Germany PC games outsell console games in retail and digital distribution is thriving. |
Actually, the COD4's 1 million figure I mentioned was for Direct Download sales only, not sure if you caught that. The fact that COD4 outsold Orange Box on Steam, and COD4 is actually selling in other DD services (unlike OB).
And if you add the impressive Sims-like performance of COD4 at the retailers (allied with the usual long shelf life of PC games), COD4 could sell 10 million copies on PC in it's lifetime.
Also, a copy of the PC retail version is more profitable than the console version. But the real difference is the profit of the DD version which, if we go by Steam's scheme, makes it a $35 for each sold! That's 3 times more profitable than the console version and 2 times more profitable than the PC retail version. That means 1 million sold on DD equals to 3 million sold on consoles.
Good point Shio, but also I just noticed that NPD actually reported 400K for 2007 alone on PC, and it's been 2 more months, plus Digital Distribution, PLUS the much larger European PC market. There is really no way it hasn't sold well over 1 million by now on PC, and it could be over 1.5 and near 2 million. So pretty good news. It also means that technically this could already be the best selling shooter ever.

Well boohoo if more PS3s have sold in Japan, and Japan doesn't like FPSs. I didn't realize we were selecting specific regions when talking about these sales. |
People like to bring up installed base which is legit argument but what about games available. Before cod4 millions of 360 owners bought Halo 3 and I am pretty sure not all of them bought cod4 or would ahve bought cod4 had they known how good it was going to be. In essense the 360 version actually could have sold alot more if there wasn't as much competition. Could be why it continues to sell so well since many are probably jumping from halo 3 or Orange box to cod4 etc. Just saying there are other factors besides jsut installed base.
Wow. Kudos to Infinity Ward.
Between CoD4, Halo 3, and BioShock, 2007 was a pretty damned fine year for shooters. That is some pretty stiff competition to beat out given the hype of BioShock and the monster that is Halo 3.

Why do I find the fact there's a delete button hilarous?
Anyways, I seriously need to give the game a try. I've been hearing it's good.
Hardly fair considering it has multiple SKU's including PC which its probably sold very well on also. Should be individual versions.
