too bad theres no cod4 pc sale numbers here it wud have been so much higher

I don't think so. probably no more than 500k..... piracy, piracy, piracy

NPD reported over 300K alone. That doesn't include Europe or Steam. Like I said it's tracked in the top 10 on Steam since its release, so I would assume it's sold at least another 400K on steam, and probably broken 1 million overall worldwide on PC sales.

Also you can't play online, at official servers, with a pirated copy. I don't think more than 10% of PC user who bought it bought it for the single player only...

PSN ID: T_Gears

End of 2009 ltd sales:

Wii = 67-68m

X360 = 38-39m

PS3 = 34-35m

Prediction: The PS3 will surpass the 360 on weekly sales after it drops to $299 on all regular weeks (no big releases).

I'll be one of the people adding to those numbers.
I plan on buying it. (Yes, I'm behind)
Well-deserved I guess :S

Wow. PS3 version has done well versus 360 version, given install bases.

Hate to cause trouble, but to get the same ratio as 360 hardware to PS3 hardware (about 1.636:1), COD4 on PS3 should have sold about 3.08 million. So, nothing really spectacular about 2.52 million, but it's still a good number.

While it's true that 360WW base is not twice as much as PS3's WW base factoring in Japan may not be a good idea as they don't seem to like FPS much anyway. If you remove Japan and just look at NA/others the 360 has over 16 million and the PS3 over 8 million. So the attach rates are actually right on par given install bases.

 Well boohoo if more PS3s have sold in Japan, and Japan doesn't like FPSs.  I didn't realize we were selecting specific regions when talking about these sales.

I understand what you mean, but it's not like I was wrong either.  Compare worldwide sales of both consoles, and then compare that ratio to sales of COD4, and the PS3 is lower than it should be.  I understand why that is, because FPSs aren't popular in Japan, 360 hardware is largest in America where FPSs are strongest, but the point wasn't about why PS3 COD4 underperformed, just that it did.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

The game is good no doubt about it, but its not great. The online lags like crazy and the weapons suffer from bad hit detection. The bad hit detection even happens in the Single player, as i was playing that last night because the online was fucking me over with lag. I knifed a guy in SP and he turned around and killed me.

I have also been online playing Domination and standing on top of two guys laying down on one of the flags and shooting them with an M60 and they never died. The game also suffers from such a fucked up ping shit its crazy, the faster your net the worse you do, you have a 5ping and the game screws you on every kill while people with a two ping get kills like crazy.

That's odd. Never had any of those issues on the PC version. Hopefully those are things that can be fixed with patching.

 Its also possible to play the game and never notice these problems, plus the PC gamers have good servers and not P2P crap.  I can go a couple days and never notice any lag, or being screwed in kills, but when the lag starts its insane.  Along with the bad hit detections.

Its like the information from one side is not regeristing with the other, this causes bullets to do no damage and players to warp and vanish around the map.  I have also noticed that the first couple bullets out of a gun do no damage, this can be seen with killcams, as i have walked behind a guy while he was being shot at and died with as little as 1-2 bullets hitting me.  While the killcam shows that the other guy fired over 10 rouds right into my team mate.

On killcams you will also notice enemy troops on his screen that were not on yours.  I have also shot people walking into the room i'm in, but the kill cam shows that he walked in the room and got about 7feet in before i started to fire, while he was alomst behind me and was able to get an easy kill.

But when the lag is working for you, the enemy has no chance of living.  I use the P90 with stopping power and steady aim and i can get 20+ killstreaks without ever being shot at while running around the map like crazy.  By the time they see me i'm around behind them shooting them in the back.

Good sales, good game.

Well, I don't think there is any real concern that PC gaming is dead. Just a few noisy console developers like Cliffy B. PC sales in NA aren't great, but digital distribution and the European and Asian markets are thriving.

PC is a true heaven for small projects, but big budget games is a totally different story.

thriving you say? hard to agree on that one. if we exclude mmo's there's nothing much left.

A lot of big budget games have had great success on the PC. Valve reported 158% sales increase in holiday 07 on Steam over holiday 06. That's pretty huge. Plus, you can't discount the fact that a publisher makes twice as much selling a game on Steam for the same price that they sell it on retail becuase Steam eliminates retail markups and just leaves publishing fees.

There's a lot left on PC... it's just not visible to NPD. NPD is basically just an irrelevant incidental number when analyzing the PC market.

I would be suprised if it sold 1mil. This could be the proof that PC gaming is still alive :)

*voice of dr Frankenstein in the back*
It's alive, it's moving, it's alive, it's alive, it's alive, it's alive, IT'S ALIVE!

:D

Think again, I would say COD4 PC could very well be walking to +8 million copies, if not +10 million copies lifetime.

COD4 is on every single PC top10 chart still and is selling at a rate à la The Sims or WoW on retail. And when you consider Direct Download sales you'll see it being even bigger sales, because COD4 has outsold the Orange Box on steam since it's release, and I remember someone state that Steam accounts for 25% of the Orange Box sales (that percentage could be higher now), so if you do some thinking and check that OB could have near 2 million copies sold on PC, and 25% of that is 500k on Steam. So there is a chance that COD4 could sell 1million on DD alone.

Goldeneye is at 8.1 million

''Hadouken!''

http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/51482

Linking this article for a reason. In it Valve says that The Orange Box sold over 1 million on 360 and another few hundred thousand on PS3 (reporting shipped of course) but that the PC sales of the game were signifficantly higher than both combined by the double digit percentages. This implies that The Orange Box has sold well over 2 million on PC, and much of that was on Steam. So yes, as Shio said, CoD4 sales on PC could easily be well over 1 million now given how it's charted in sales tracking.

Lombardi goes on to say the PC market is healthy, but not in American retail sales. He says in other countries like Germany PC games outsell console games in retail and digital distribution is thriving.

Maybe I'm crazy but I think CoD4 is massively overrated, it's just an average shooter to me. Nothing overstanding or anything, and the graphics aren't THAT great.

Not worthy IMO...
