Forums - Gaming - Going to start The Witcher - give me hints and tips (NO SPOILERS PLEASE)

http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=7016722

So I just made the above post in the 'games you won't play' thread, and then suddenly thought, "screw it, I am going to play The Witcher."

My partner is going overseas for some time shortly, so I will have some time for gaming. Originally I was planning a rehash of the Mass Effect series and maybe playing Lightning Returns, but I figure its time I finally got around to this celebrated Western RPG series, in advance of The Witcher 3 landing in May.

So, are there any recommendations for play style? Are side-quests useful and worth doing? What should I do, what should I avoid? Etc.

Feel free to share things you liked and didn't like about 1 or 2.

Please, absolutely no story spoilers.

Edit: Was going to play the PC versions unless there is a good reason not too?

Its a bit like that. By all accounts they are a major time committment as well, so its just not felt worth trying until I have substantial free time.

I miss the gameplay style of The Witcher 1.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

I never played such retarded/stupid designed/broken boss in my life and add to that a combat system that is disgusting and terrible and you have the most frustrating gaming moment ever.

I beat those sons of a bitch but after that i deleted the game from the PC.

I am going to play the witcher 3 but i think in this one the combat is nothing like in the witcher 1 ...

Wait so is all the combat bad? Or just for that boss?

Here's a tip: Don't. Game's nothing but fetch quest after fetch quest.

But if you do play it, I found that I liked it better with a top-down camera, so maybe check that out in the options menu. And some sidequests can't be completed after a certain point in the story, so, you know. Finish them quickly or you might miss your chance.
