Because Codename Steam doesn't look very interesting or Nintendo-like. If the game was more interesting the hype would be bigger.

Your opinion of course, for I find it looks very interesting, but this is besides the point, being that making a new game doesn't automatically mean more hype.

No, it's a fact. The trailers of this game barely get views on youtube compared to Splatoon and Xenoblade Chronicles X.

Once again, not relevant to my argument! If you're gonna keep going off tangent just to have something to reply back with then we're done here!

My point is making a good game creates more hype. Codename Steam doesn't fit that criterion.

Neither does another lazy Kirby game that should be on the 3DS (this one in particular). You can't even look at your tv while playing this game lol...

lol you're just furthering what I said earlier about making a new game. It wont necessarily be "good" and/or hyped just because it's a new game, and Steam is just one example of this. Bottomline, if they made Metroid instead, it wouldn't automatically be a good game. It has to actually be a well made game in it's own right, and hype does not always mean quality.

Wii U needs a Metroid Prime. And it will get one next year. As the 3DS does too...

Guess who gets 30 next year...

Nah. Metroid is Wii U's marquee title in 2016. You can hold me to that.

2016 is the 30th anniversary of Metroid... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MdEFCzMNPa0

Bingo.

Official Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Thread

I kind of need to defend Kirby here. So yeah, Kirby games do come out quite often, but thats because they make money and have a pretty big fanbase. The upcoming rainbow curse looks okay and tripple deluxe sold well. I don't think that Kirby games are crappy, I do think that the ideas they have some times for Kirby are kind... lame.

Honestly tho, Nintendo has plenty of oppertunity with the Wii U to expand their library of IP's. Hell they could even dig deep and ressurect and reimagine some of their old IP's like we're seeing with Yoshi. Imagine a Kid Icarus game that's in fullHD(1080/60) with OPTIONAL gamepad controls and online vs. mode. That game would be fresh and unique for Nintendo on a home console.

I still believe that Nintendo should expand their library of titles for the Wii U while still maintaining most of their old IPs. I would totally be okay with 3D World being the 3D Mario game for this generation if it means I get Metroid, Kirby, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Smash, 101, Bayonetta, etc. Point is, Nintendo doesn't need to skip a generation for any of its beloved IP's OR choose to produce new IP's as long as they limit the number each IP gets per generation to one.

Besides, it wouldn't be exactly fair for any of Nintendo's beloved IP's to go off into that sweet night without any fanfare. Just sayin :)

This thread typifies the issues with the Nintendo fanbase to a tee:

"We need new IP" -Wonderful 101, Splatoon, Code Name: STEAM, Nintendoland, Captain Toad...
"Oh, they don't count"

"We need mature games" -Zelda, Bayonetta, Fire Emblem, Wonderful 101, Devils Third, Smash Bros, Xenoblade...
"Oh, they don't count"

"It's been too long since a Metroid game" -What about F Zero, Star Fox etc etc etc
"They should get rid of them"

And that's just from one fan, in this thread.

We also have instances of "they not Nintendo enough" vs "all Nintendo games are the same". Well, which is it?

This is the problem Nintendo faces; people say they want new IP, then they turn around and say that actually they want a new Metroid; they say they want new experiences, then moan that it's different to the other Nintendo games; they say they want 'mature' games, then whinge that it doesn't have that Nintendo feel.

They'll be whinging that Splatoon, a multiplayer focused title, doesn't have a 'proper' story mode next.

Ultimately Nintendo makes a large variety of games, has a large library of IP and only limited resources. It IS fair that sometimes titles have to take a break.

Metroid SHOULD skip this gen to give F Zero and Star Fox a chance to make a name for themselves amongst modern audiences, and give Nintendo a chance to develop more new IP, and then Metroid can become a launch title for the next console and have a chance to prove that it is capable of providing those sales that the internet claims it can.

Give F Zero to Retro, they'd do a standup job.

But seriously, fuck Nintendo fans. We're the worst.

Every industry needs a group of semi-bi-polar people who love them one second and want to flay them alive the next. Look at Apple in the cellphone/tablet market. But yes, fuck Nintendo fans, we are pretty bad :P

Fuck F-Zero, game never sells well. Retro is capable of much more. Star Fox is on-rails and easy to develop, it shouldn't come at the cost of Metroid.
It makes no sense to develop games for a franchise that can only manage 650k copies sold with its latest game. F-Zero had its chance and it failed. Besides, the latest F-Zero was made by third party studios. It doesn't need to come at the resources of Nintendo.
