Companies often keep money in things like because they are long-term investments that they can cash into during emergencies. I don't think Nintendo should give up the Mariners.

http://blogs.seattletimes.com/mariners/2013/10/01/mariners-have-more-than-doubled-franchise-value-while-losing-big/

"But they continue to rack up huge wins in the mighty pocketbook, having more than doubled franchise value since the 2008 stock market meltdown despite putting some of the worst teams in franchise history on the field. At the start of the 2009 season, Forbes assessed the Mariners at a value of $426 million — well down from a year earlier with a 101-loss season at a $117 million payroll helping cause that."

That was after a season where they 71-91. They then finished last year with 87 wins, missing the playoffs by just 1 game. The team is seriously on the uprise in the AL West.

As of March 2014 they were valued at over $700M. Nintendo purchased them for just $100M.

Yeah the article was talking about how their value doubled as of 2013 from 2008.

and what would they do with that billion dollars?

make like...20 games with great budgets!

Get Your Portable ID!Lord of Ratchet and Clank

Duke of Playstation Plus

Warden of Platformers

I totally disagree with you

What they should bloody do is release another Ken Griffey Jr game.

Oh and I guess keep bringing in the 250million a year profit from it.

Nintendo has plenty of cash, I don't know where you guys are getting the idea that Nintendo is thirsty for money. Why get rid of assets that continuously generate revenue when you are doing fine?

                                                                                                               You're Gonna Carry That Weight.

Xbox One - PS4 - Wii U - PC

Not sure about this, but does the fact that the Mariners generate $210M in revenue a year mean that Nintendo made that much money per year? I remember there was confusion during Nintendo's last financial results between their revenue and their profit. Is it also $210M in profit?

If they earn money every year.. why would they sell ?

It's not like they need money (sony i'm looking at you :)

This.

If you get a constant cashflow just by owning them and you dont have financial problems I see no point in selling them.

What Nintendo should do IMO is make NES games free for people that own Nintendo hardware and sell NES games for 1.99 on iOS.

Asking for $5 on the eShop (and especially 5 pounds or euros) is a joke when you can get 1 year old PC games on steam for 4 bucks.

Also, why do people keep saying that Nintendo is doing fine financially? Haven't they been in the red for past like 3 years? Am I missing something here?

they should make a deal with disney... nintendo gets the game licenses form diseny and disney the movie right from nintendo.

If that means Nintendo would get access to Marvel IP too ... that would be a huge win for Nintendo and a no-brainer.

Disney+Pixar+Marvel+Star Wars, would give them a ton of games to make.

I know, but I wanted to expands on that to show also how much they jumped from just 2013 to 2014 in terms of their on the field play, which if it continues and drives more fan business will reflect on their franchise value.

That $200M+ is revenue, not profit. After the 2012 season their total profit was $5.9M.

It is easily more than that now, but nowhere near $200M. Maybe $20-$30M.
