Forums - Gaming - Is there a chance that PS4 shipped over 20 million before the end of last year? If yes it could still be ahead of Wii.

Now hear me out now, i know what you are thinking. If it passed that milestone wouldn't have announced it yet? Not necessarily, there is a chance that they are keeping some positive news to announce for their quarterly report. Sales tracking so far does indicate it didn't make it, even with filled channels the numbers don't allow for a shipments to have exceeded the 19 million mark by much. However we only know sales in Japan and the U.S. with some certainty. The rest of the world has proven hard to track before, especially Europe.

And for the Wii, it managed reach 20.13 million shipped by 31th of December 2007. Yes Wii was in much shorter supply back then so in sold numbers the Wii was certainly ahead, but in the end the number that goes in the record books is what it shipped. And it's the only numbers we ever know for sure.

So how big is the chance? I would say there is a small chance it made it.

Edit: This should have been in sales discussion sorry.

Based on what I saw left in stores I would say yes.

Prediction for console Lifetime sales:

Wii:100-120 million, PS3:80-110 million, 360:70-100 million

[Prediction Made 11/5/2009]

3DS: 65m, PSV: 22m, Wii U: 18-22m, PS4: 80-120m, X1: 35-55m

I gauruntee the PS5 comes out after only 5-6 years after the launch of the PS4.

Yeah stock seems to be really good, stores probably have confidence they will sell them soon enough. Also in Europe there were reports of short supply, what if Sony managed a big shipment there just before the end of the year.

Possibly worldwide.

Wait, I dont get it... So Sony said 18.5 million ps4s have been sold as of January 3rd right? And we know that 20 million wiis have been sold in the same relative time frame. So say that the ps4s shipped more than the wii but the wii still sold more to consumers none the less so how would that make the ps4 ahead of the wii?

With ahead i meant in shipped numbers offcourse. Sold through numbers can give a better indication of how well a system is selling at a specific time, but in the end only shipped numbers are reliable. 18.5 million announced by Sony could be a minimum number, the real number could be slightly higher. More inportantly we just don't how much Wii exactly sold to consumers at the end of 2007.

They sold 18.5m,so 19.5 ps4 were shipped,otherwise 20m shipments means 1.5m on the shelves and that's a hyperbole...

Only shipped numbers are reliable? Really? So when Sony says "18.5 million ps4s sold," thats not reliable enough for you? Then why is it when Nintendo fans and Xbox fans give shipped numbers on this site, they get trashed up on by various people? And sure, it could sell slightly higher but not 1.5 million higher... And I am pretty sure that vgc would have adjusted the wii numbers if it needed adjusting just like how they did with the ps4's overtracking.

Yup, you apparently didn't get it. He's not saying the PS4 is ahead of the Wii in sold through numbers. He's talking abt it being ahead in Shipped numbers.

Well, at least I think that's what he's talking about

Its possible. 1.5m on shelves is a lot but there are 2 exclusives coming out which would help sell a lot of systems.
