Forums - Nintendo - Were the 1st downloadable Wii games for Wii U strategically chosen?

I think its a bit of mix and match

Galaxy 2 to boost the console were it is lacking

Metroid because it is rare and they want people not to forget the franchise, kind of a stop gap between doing MP4. Then probably launch MP4 on the next system

Punch Out probably to setup an announcement of a new one. Reason I say that is because it wouldn't take long to make a punch out game and now that we have a little mac amiibo they ca use that in the game. Wii U is also lacking and form of sports game so this would be a nice litle addition that woudl be quick and cheap to make.

Were they strategically chosen? Of course. Other than that? You are reading too much into it.

Playing Xenoblade 2 before I buy Xenoblade 3 (otherwise I couldn't wait to play 3).

Can they announce a new Fire Emblem? A remake of Genealogy or Tellius would suffice !

I think you have a very good case.

Nintendo does a lot to re-release older games to bump up buzz about an upcoming new game to the franchise.

Frankly, all I really care about is being able to get Metroid Prime Trilogy for $10.

I'm excited for the trilogy. Became a metroid fan after the $.30 get deal for super metroid and interested in trying a 3d one. Any one know if this will support gamepad play/supports classic controller pro

I would assume that you can only use the Wii Remote+Nunchuck to play the Prime Trilogy. It would be really cool if you could use the Pro Controller though!

I feel like its a test, them thinking there is so much talking about Metroid Prime and Mario, but Mario 3D sold badly and the Primes sold badly... they want to know one thing: "Is it worth it?"

Punch Out and Donkey Kong meanwhile are... confusing.

Metroid Prime is the best selling Metroid game of all time. It most certainly did not sell badly (well, it bombed in Japan, but NA made up for that). Metroid Prime 3 is the 3rd best selling Metroid game. It's an absolutely successful series, and one that has a lot of brand power.

But I do agree that it could be a sort of test.

If your theory is right we will also get new installments of Pandoras Tower, Sin and Punishment and Zangeki no Reginleiv! http://www.siliconera.com/2015/01/15/pandoras-tower-sin-punishment-star-successor-coming-wii-u-eshop/

would definatel take sequels to those games. id zangeki no reginleive getting released? always wanted to try it

I think its the other way. This is more likely because it fills gaps in the Wii U library. People wanted a new 3D Mario but won't get one this generation. So instead we get Galaxy 2 and people have been clamoring for Metroid Prime for the longest time. This is a great way to appease those gamers.

Unfortunately only in Japan so far.

Does anyone think that it's no coincidence that the 1st 3 Wii games being made available to download on the Wii U are Galaxy 2, Punch-Out, & Metroid Prime Trilogy? Do you think this could indicate that Nintendo will announce new games for all those franchises at this upcoming E3? I think this could end up being the case...

Well, what do you think, am I reading too much into this, or will Nintendo reveal new Galaxy, Punch-Out, and Metroid Prime games at this years E3?

Maybe it's because of Smash. Little Mac and Rosalina are new characters - and Samus / ZSS are now two characters in their own right. It could be looked at as an extension of the idea behind the Masterpiece feature. Smash raises awareness of so many characters; I don't doubt that many people encounter some of these characters for the first time through Smash. Why not piggy back off that and make some money in the process?
