Forums - Nintendo - Oh Dear God-THQ doubts Wii

haha, it's more of a comparison. people want a next gen console, they see a good 360 (elite- $400), good ps3 (80 gig- $500), and a wii ($250).

which one seems less like the others? therefore, the wii is generally considered affordable/cheap. plus, it launched bundled with a game.

Except they also see a 360 arcade at $270 and yet still pick the Wii, its not about price, if it was GCN would have won last gen, its about game lineup and appeal, Wii is what the masses want

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

appeal also has to do with a brand people trust. people trust nintendo for 2+ decades of mainstream service but people trust sony just as much if not more. the ps1 and ps2 (around 220m consoles shipped) have outsold the nes, snes, n64, gamecube, saturn, dreamcast, and xbox combined.

There some justice in this world: as a proud Wii owner, i really doubt THQ...

And i mean, who cares: they'll miss business opportunities, and will loose more money on PS3 without even saying a critic... just because PS3 is supposed to be the future of this industry, and is supposed to do great... one day...

I guess it will take them another couple of years to understand how bright that future is, but then it will be too late to complain, and invest wisely in the development of AAA Wii games... or at least A Wii games, as we're talkin about THQ anyway...

"A beautiful drawing in 480i will stay beautiful forever...

and an ugly drawing in 1080p will stay ugly forever..."

and you wonder why people were paying more than the price of the ps3 to get wiis on ebay during holiday season

If Sony was so trusted then PSP would have beaten DS, Brand loyalty is more of a myth than you realize, if it wasn't we'd all be playing on Atari's

THQ are very tied with Microsoft.

Nothing wrong with speaking your mind tho.

people arnt buying the wii becasue its cheap, they're buying it because it appeals to them. In the Uk a wii costs £180, you can easily find a 360 for £190 - 200, in some cases they have been on sale for £150.
Considering the incredible difference in hardware its obvious its not just price thats the issue here.
Ms are in a terrible position at the moment, being outsold by a marginally cheaper machine for one market and being outsold by a marginally more expensive machine in another.

The statement is quite true. But just like with the PS2 - the console that ends up with a significant lead in the install base, ends up being the one that "wins".

The difference this time, is that there is a significant "gap" between the Wii & 360/PS3 technically - whereas the PS2/XBOX gap was much smaller.

So there is nothing stopping software from doing well on the 360/PS3, which can't really be done on the Wii.

...

It does, however - get *really* interesting if Ninty bring out a "360 spec'd" Wii in 2 years - full backwards compat, etc. Especially if they can do it cheaper.

full backwards compat

Nintendo seems to be the only one not having any problem with backward compatibility.

It'll just be 2 Wii's duct taped together :)

I don't think they "doubt" the Wii, they just said it's possible that the Wii could have some competition later on this generation. I don't think that means that THQ thinks the Wii is going to "not pwn" it just means that they think the PS3 could conceivably catch up this generation.

If the PS3 couldn't conceivably catch up, then why are PS3 fanboys infesting this site like boils on a pretty ladies bottom?

Go tell Crazzy the Wii has already won, it'll break his heart, lol.

Lets also remember shams, Zack and Wiki couldn't exactly be done on the PS3 or 360, hehe.

I have nothing against THQ and I still don't. I think they aren't so much predicting for the Wii's loss of first place, as much as hoping for competition within the industry, which is great for everyone, including 3rd party publishers.

That's my story and I'm sticking too it.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.

NO NO, NO NO NO.
