the wii dropping of price won't matter as much cause it's already such an affordable machine. most people already consider it a cheap system. 360 and especially the ps3 have a long way to go until they reach that mark.

and look at the ps1 and ps2. sold something like 200m consoles combined. it's not like people aren't willing to pick up a sony system.

i do think the wii will continue to do great and sell like mad, but i do expect the other systems (again, especially the ps3) to pick up the pace.

First, the Wii isn't necessary a cheap system. I seem to remember an executive of Activision or some publisher saying a console's sweet spot is $199. The Wii is $50 from it. Secondly, while the PS3 still costs a bit high, the 360's Arcade pack is selling at $280. There's a $30 difference, yet the Wii still outsells the 360 in NA. Not to mention demand still outstrips supply. There's more than just price involve with Wii sales at the current price so the Wii dropping to $150 will do a lot more to sell the system. (I also think it'll be a while before the PS3 will drop down to $199, by the way.) Will the PS3/360 pick up more sales when they drop the price? Probably, but so will the Wii and the gap will probably be the same. However, the statement from the head of THQ makes it seem like all the PS3/360 has to do to close the gap with the Wii is to lower the price, as if Wii owners are craving for a hardcore console but can't afford it.

And we just ended another week with Wii selling more than PS3 + 360.

Anyway, can someone name any decent games THQ produced?

Well, the fact is still this: Nintendo hasn't had a price drop after 1 1/2 years....

They still have a loooong way to go before their system reaches the $99 level of the GameCube.

I seriously doubt the 360 or PS3 could be produced at that price, with their hard-drives and all.

i think a lot of gamers have yet to make a mark on this console generation and i feel like given a choice between the 360 and ps3 (historically speaking) those gamers will pick up a ps3.

however, im def not trying to harp on the wii or it's success. i just think, looking at the past two generations, it's hard to see the ps3 not picking up some major sales. granted, it may be 2 or 3 years before it reaches the >$300 price point. still, all things considered, it's selling very well for a $500 system. far better then the saturn did at $400.

THQ has a reason for this. Hasn't their Wii titles sold poorly?

I'm bored, so I just thought I'd offer a little analysis of THQ sales this generation on all platforms.  Here are the sales totals for all published THQ games this gen minus the big successes of Smackdown vs Raw and Saints Row.

PS3

6 titles selling 510,000 units

85,000 units per title

X360

12 titles selling 2,110,000 units

176,000 units per title

Wii

12 titles selling 1,480,000 units

123,000 units per title

The Wii seems to be doing okay, considering its a year younger than the 360 and has cheaper dev costs.

The 360 is clearly where THQ is making most of its money, for the moment. Saints Row was a million seller and Smackdown vs Raw has sold best on that platform.

PS3 is looking really bad for THQ. PS360 multiplat bombs like Conan, Stuntman: Ignition, and Juiced 2 landed with such a resounding thud on PS3 that one wonders if THQ recouped the cost of porting.

You are right tastyshovelware in what you say.

But when PS3 will cost $300 the Wii will sell for $100-150 and PS3 / 360 owners will pick a Wii just for the cool blue light it has.

By reading the numbers posted by famousringo THQ must be one of the worst game developers.

People are waiting for a cheaper Playstation, just wait and see. In the words of Crazzyman = )))))))))))))))))) lol j/k.

Incorrect, $199, not $249 is the beginning of mass market pricing

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

^^

haha, it's more of a comparison. people want a next gen console, they see a good 360 (elite- $400), good ps3 (80 gig- $500), and a wii ($250).

which one seems less like the others? therefore, the wii is generally considered affordable/cheap. plus, it launched bundled with a game.
