Forums - Nintendo - Wii U's Online Multiplayer Trifecta! Mario Kart 8, Smash Bros. 4, Splatoon! Time to make a big deal about Free Online Play?

The problem is that both mario kart and smash bros have piss poor online modes compared to your normal online game on the other consoles. Seriously, 2 minute smash battles only??? I should be able to jump into various different match types if I want.

1v1 gives you 5 minutes, and soon tourney mode will be patched in allowing you to choose whatever rules you want. Mario Kart already has that so it's only real issue is the lackluster battle mode.

Free online for 3 games people will play competitively online? I'd be pissed if they charged for that too. There's at least 45 multiplayer games on PS4 and Xbox One each.

plus the fact he 360 and ps3 have free online and much bigger and better offerings

Since when has the 360 had free online and regardless the same is true against PS4/XB1 aswell so what's your point here? o_O

This went from "Nintendo should promote Splatoon" to "I get better online services in my PSBOX consoles, no need for a Wii U because it has no games"... Facepalm.

I agree with TC. They could promote Splatoon and highlight the online part, as the Nintendo version of generic gray shooters. And with all honesty, I believe the game has great potential, and if it turns out to be a success.. It could very well become a franchise.

I'm looking forward to it. Don't count out Devil's 3rd for the 'mature hardcore' gamer too. I'm also betting that Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate ends up on Wii U, sealing its hold over Japan.

YouTube channels, tournaments and strong word of mouth will be vital for Splatoon to succeed. Nintendo has managed to turn Tomadachi Life into successful new IP, I think it can happen again with Splatoon.

And Yes, Mario Kart+ Smash+ Spatoon is a powerful online experience core for present and future Nintendo consoles.

i think also in the future Mario Strikers U (Soccer) , is a great game and online experience

Mario Kart+ Super Smash Bros + Splatoon + Mario Strickers = the funnest online experience

And of course people try to claim that these 3 games are the ONLY games that utilize online on the Wii U. Absolutely false. These games are just going to be the 3 key ones, kind of like the Call of Duty/Titanfall/Halo trifecta of the XB1. Except this is free.

Oh yeah I keep forgetting about Devil's Third, just shows that Nintendo needs to do a better job promoting it!

I forgot 360 charged. My point still stands sony offers a much better online service for free on ps3. I don't see the point in spending money advertising an online service that is much better on pc, ps3, X1 and ps4 where 99% of the online community is already playing and very satisfied.

I don't think Nintendo will make it a big deal, because Trolololo it's Nintendo.

They just gotta show how fun it is, no need to talk trash about money and stuff.

If Nintendo makes their games make you pay to be online than that is it for me and consoles, I will become a PC gamer, I should not have to do that,.

But Nintendo is smart enough not too, and I know it is a lousy move to play this card but... WII U GAMING MASTER RACE.
