I took a hiatus from gaming a few years after the PS2/OG Xbox/GC cameout(although I owned all those consoles and still do) so I was not paying attention to the reveals of their successors. Given the PS2 was an amazing success, one would assume that the reveal and announcement of the PS3 would have been met with much hype and anticipation. What was good about the reveal? What was bad(Im assuming the boomarang controllers were one of the bad elements lol)? Please share what the general consensus was and what you thought about the whole thing.

a lot of cut-scenes who couldnt latter hold up when these games were released and a lot of promises from nvidia about the rsx. It was great event and reveal but most of these promises couldn't be kept when the ps3 was launched like two HDMI ports.

super reveal and promised everything to the fans which made everyone super excited. sadly sony fucked up and they didn't live up to the promises. But the games made up for it eventually. The thing could have been 200$ cheaper at launch and just as powerful if they did it right.

All I remember from back then was Crazy ken holding a silver ps3 (that was never released in that color) saying 2 teraflops, $599 and Kaz singing riiiiiidge racer!!!!

God in hindsight, sony really fucked up with the PS3. Makes looking at how ms handled the XB1 even more shocking cause Sony basically wrote a book on how not to launch a console. Ms read that book and rather than learn from it, decided to try it all for themselves.

Maybe its really the curse of the third.

The announcement of the console was made during E3 2005 but nothing was said about pricing until 2006.  

The first reactions were really great for what Sony was promising by then.  2006 screwed things for Sony.

Yeh, I'm an Aussie and I vaguely remember it being around $999AUS lol. I think the $1,200 model contained a bigger hard drive? Didn't a Sony president say people will work more hours just to get a PS3? Seriously... Great console though. I have 2!
