Forums - Gaming - The Japanese console market is the lowest it has been in 24 years

The Final Fantasy themed ps4 + Final Fantasy Type-0 bundle is also going to help a lot

So, the same can be said of the Wii?

Big deal. It's only decreased like 15% since 2011. The tax hike last year must be factored in.

this, japans politicans are a bunch of morons

My online systems: Mac M4 Apple sillicon+16 GB, PC Vega 56+Amd Ryzen+32GB DDR4, Xbox Series X, PS4 Pro, Switch Lite, Playstation Vita TV, PS3, PSP

My retro systems: Wii U, DSi, Xbox, PS2, Dreamcast, N64, PS1, Sega Saturn, Neo Geo AES, SNES, Evercade

It saddens me to see such an influential market I admire decline like this. If gaming goes to phones then just less gaming I will do. Least still see some support on consoles and handhelds.

In Japan? No.

Anyhow, the 3DS is doing average and if we look at the trend in the graph then there should be a bounce back in a couple of years. That is, if you are an optimist and believe that'll happen.

This sucks..

No way KH (or even FFXV) will release this year, but I think the PS4 will be up in 2015 compared to 2014, if not then things are worse than I thought XD

Well last month I think SE said both games going to be released in 2015 or early 2016

Could you give me a link, then , because I don't remember they said that...I remember they said KH3 was just moving from their engine to Unreal engine 4 or something like that: http://kotaku.com/kingdom-hearts-iii-is-being-made-with-unreal-engine-4-1643235633

English is not my native language

24 years ago the Japanese economy burst thanks to the real estate bubble in Tokyo. The tax hike has certainly contributed and will only get worse come October, but mobile gaming has taken its toll as well since smart phones have only recently become popular in the area and picking up steam. It will be interesting to see what comes of it all.

And I really don't think things will get any better from now on! :/
