I personally think it'll be a great gen for Xbox and PS in terms of sales, while my predictions things the Wii U will continue to falter and lose 3rd party support, anyway here is my analysis :
Based on a number of statistics, I can predict that the PS4 will finish number one will total sales of 100 million consoles! This is based off of current trends for ps support, and I think the ps4 could garner as much as 20 million sales annually thanks to consumer trends and the repaired ps brand. As for Xbox, I find it to fair very well as well, with total console sales of 70 million. While I do think a portion of the xbox 360 base will go to ps4, I think many will continue to stay at the brand. Consumer trends also show slower upgrade cycles, suggesting consumers are waiting for a slim version (with a price tag of 299 or 249). However sales will continue strong, and I personally feel it will provide its base with tons of 1st party games (as did the ps3). So that finishes off with ps4 and xbox one. Now onto the Wii U. I want to get facts straight, I can't see it do well. With much of its userbase either moving to smartphones or core gaming, I really only see Nintendo gamers continue to stay. Personally, I feel it would be good to leave the console at 299 so Nintendo can continue to profit from the sales of the consoles, however I think 3rd party support will remain weak, which will drive consumers away. Nintendo will continue to have to live off of its 1st party games, and I find that console sales will be the lowest in Nintendo history. I also find that it'll be off a short lifecycle, perhaps being replaced as early as late 2016. Overall, this makes me believe console sales will hit just a bleak 15 million. I myself don't like admitting it, but based off of recent sales trend, its not going to improve for Nintendo. But I remain hopeful that it'll continue to bring out great products, and the company is very likely to continue being profitable. So here is my take on the console wars, here's a recap in sales (for people to lazy to read).
PS4: 100 million Xbox One: 70 million Wii U: 15 million
Disclaimer: All of these sales are based appon opinion, but market research as well as current buying trends (subject to change) are factored in. These predictions where made based on 6 year console lifecycles (4-5 years for the Wii U). These numbers could vary based apon their lifecycles being shorter or longer than 6 years.
