Forums - Gaming - Sony Should Release Three New SKUs

PS4S (PS4 Superslim) This would be a slightly smaller version of what is already a small console. It should come with a 1tb HD as standard and retail for £325.

PS4Di (PS4 Digital Only) This would be smaller than the Superslim, have no disc player and come with a 2tb HD as standard and retail for £325

PS4+ (PS4/PS3) This would have all the hardware of the PS4 and PS3 in one console. It would come with a 2tb HD as standard and would retail for £370

What do you guys think?

Ps3 hybrid is just a bad idea.

I'd love for this to happen, but how would it affect manufacturing costs? I'm not particularly knowledgeable on the topic, but wouldn't having 3 quite different models (especially the PS4+ one, which i expect would cost more than £45 more) make reducing manufacturing costs more difficult vs having a single mass produced one?

I don't think it is. I reckon a lot of people would sell their PS3s and PS4s (if they alreay have one) and buy the PS4+.

Yeah, I'm ignorant of that too. Perhaps this isn't a good idea from a manufacturing point of view but I think it's a good idea from a consumers point of view.

manufacturing three seperate SKUs will be a logistical nightmare. having a PS4 with PS3 built in is also redundant and a waste of money. that's why they have PSNow. Digital only console isn't worth having manufacturing fragmentation. that's cause a blu-ray drive probably cost them no more than $20 now. you might as well leave it in the box.

A bigger HDD is all well and good but making the HDD user replaceable is an all round easier way to deal with the storage issue. or even better supporting external HDD. people don't care about value, they care about price.

Demand for such an expensive thing would be very low. There archtectures are so different there would be almost no overlap in components it would be a massive monstrosity.

How do you plan to market this so people who don't read video game forums don't get confused as to why their PS4 doesn't play discs but their friend's does?

Terrible idea. PS4 has been doing so well because theres only 1 SKU. Golden tip: dont confuse people with many options.

-PS4 Slim will come and replace the current console in due time.
-They could release a digital only console in the distant future
-Backwards compatible PS4 will never exist, accept PS Now or dont sell your PS3

It'd be no more difficult to market than hard drive sizes.
